I am in the process of installing moog upper ball joints. I am a little stumped as to how the shim retainer peice is supposed to fit on the ball joint. When the piece is on correctly, tightening the bolts warps it out of shape. When I leave the retainer piece off, the boot flexes out more than it should.

What would be the best way to bolt the ball joint to the uca?

Oh and here is a teaser build pic

Looks like ya got it on right. I wouldn't worry about the metal shim warping as long as it does what its supposed to do. I've done several front ends on several cars and it was never an issue with the shim piece. I've installed them just like that and had no issues.

Does the shim fit better if its flipped over? It looks upside-down to me.

It does fit better flipped over, but then the metal does not cup around the rubber boot which allows the boot to flip out just like if the retainer was not used. I could try placing some washers in between the retainer and the ball joint.

It took me about all day to figure it out, but the retainer goes over the rubber boot! I am glad to finally be done compressing and decompressing springs
