I drove my car to my University Center for dinner last night. I had just got back from home so the car was running for at least 45 minutes. I ate dinner and when I tried to start my car it made some high pitched whine. I had the key in the ignition but turned the key one turn (position where windows can go up and down and what not, but not where car cranks). I wasnt sure if it was my car at first so I took the key out of the ignition and walked outside my car. It was my car so I popped the hood. It almost sounded like it was coming from the intake manifold or possibly the distributor (not too sure though). It continued to do the whine and after a few minutes it smelled horrible like something was burning. It smelled so bad it gave me a headache. Finally, I just decided to disconnect the battery and thats when the whine stopped. Does anyone have any idea of what this could be?
