More Progress On The Whipple Install!

Here's where I left off.

Now it was time to take off the IC to clean it.

First I used a small propane torch to heat up casting around the bolts to loosen up the Red Loctite so I didn't break the bolts pulling the IC off.

Because the bolts were hot from the torch I used a telescopic magnet tool to get them out. (The thing is worth its weight in Gold!)

Here's the IC off.

As you can see I got all the bolts out without breaking them.

Next it's out back to clean the IC. Simple Green and Brake Clean are the weapons of choice.

I also cleaned the lower intake while I was at it.

Then I used my air compressor to blow out the water.

Here is the Whipple next to the Eaton.

I had to transfer the EGR Valve over to the Whipple. (I ended up pulling it off after I bolted the Whipple down to help line it up with the EGR tube.)

Here's the bottom of the Whipple ready for the IC.

Twin Screw!!! Ahhhhhh!!!!

I used Grey Silicone Gasket Maker to seal the IC to the Whipple along with Red Loctite on the bolts.

Here's the Inch LB torque wrench, silicone and Loctite that I used.

Now the heads are cleaned up ready for the lower.

Finally the Whipple meets the engine.

Next up is to fill the Whipple with Oil.

It has just enough to fill the supercharger up to the half way mark on the sight glass which is what Whipple recommends.

Next I bolted up the TB, IAB, and throttle cable and cruise control cable along with some vacuum lines and Fuel line.

Then I finished up the vacuum lines and solenoids and hoses and CAI.

Here's where I stopped. Almost done, just waiting on a few misc items to finish.

Nice job sleeper. Great imput with great camera shots. My buddy R is in the finishing stages of the installation of a KB 2.6L. Im hoping Ill get that call in the am saying hes finished.

Kevin, very nicely done. And great pics.

It's not often you see Red loctite and inch-lb wrenches in the same shot.
I liked your magnet tip for hot fasteners - better than the needle-nose pliers I normally use.

Your attention to detail is as sharp as ever.

Yeah, the IC bolts are very fragile and they use Red Loctite to keep them secure so they don't back out and get sucked up into the motor. I have read about a lot of people who have broken them off. I just took my time and worked each one loose. Some of them I had to go back and forth with if they gave me any resistance. Wasn't too hard.

They give you new bolts with the Whipple and you have to use Red Loctite on them as well and torque them to 89 in-lbs or 7.4167 ft-lbs. First time I have used an inch pound torque wrench.

Thanks. I have not yet had a chance to detail it like I like though.

I will after I get it running. I had to exchange the 100mm snub idler pulley for the 92mm one because it was too big and it caused the belt to hit itself under the blower pulley. I also had to get a base tune put in my SCT XCal2 to get the car running so I can get it over to the dyno to tune it.

Yep, Yep and Yep. LOL.......

No problem. I enjoyed sharing them. Hopefully it helps someone else out.

Here is how it sits as of right now. I just got the Boost-A-Pump wiried up yesterday and just need my relay thats coming from Fordfuelinjection.com .

I also put a 2.75" upper pulley on along with a Billetflow 90mm snubber pulley to help with belt wrap, put the stock lower pulley back on, finished putting the injector harnesses in and put a fresh set of plugs in.

I am hoping to have it tuned on Friday.

you just need a 10# lower with that 2.75 upper lol, ya not really! lol it would be awesome though. that would be like 30psi of boost.

I have seen an 8# lower and 2.75 upper before on someone else's car.

Should make between 18-19 lbs with just the upper.

TylerB on here I beleave runs a 10# lower with a stock 3.50 upper and hits 20-21psi, you shold be somewhere close to that.
