I have a stock 5.0, well B303 cam, but thats it as far as the engine goes. And I am wanting to go supercharger, but I don't want to mess anything up. I was wondering what is the most boost you should go with a stock motor. And I can't decide which system to go with. So if any of you have any suggestions I would appreciate it. Thanks

There really isn't a golden rule that says how much boost can be pushed through a stock motor. It all depends on the tune. I'm running 14.5 lbs of boost with my vortech SQ-trim on a fully stock bottom end and all is well. But I'm on VERY borrowed time.

and with iron heads etc...........

anyway, i would say solely due to the fact you have no experience with it, i would run a conservative 7-9 lbs max on a stock longblock.
add aluminum heads, up that to 9-11..........as you go along, and learn more, you can go as crazy as you want.

just remember, the amount of boost you run, directly relates to how think your wallet is! (otherwise, as you blow hg's, your car will sit a long time while you save money to fix it!)

good luck!

ohh, and do some searches in the power adder forums at the corral............there is a grip of info there on supercharging.

Its definately how lucky you get too lol...im running a stock 302 but i have an upper boss intake, with 24 lb injectors, along with a 76mm mass air flow (to disable this need for a computer chip to calibrate), a 65mm throttle body to go along with my powerdyne supercharger 9psi boost with a discharge tube (no intercooler needed) and it still runs like a demon...ive had some problems with an annoying resonating noise coming from near the cold air intake but i think its only a heat sensor problem. But as for the engine, it runs so clean im still amazed, considering it has over 100 thou miles on it (but i baby the car though lol). From what i have read, anything higher then 9psi or so, you would need an intercooler and its suggested to change your heads, pistons and rods from stock to take the extra stress from boost.

I can guarantee you that in about 10 posts we will be up to talking about DART blocks an 30lbs of boost, its just how it always goes

9 posts later....
Its stupid to run boost on a stock block, if you were smart you would buy a Dart or R302 then you can run a **** load more boost..like 30#s

On a stock 5.0 engine the head gaskets will blow first, but even if you have upgraded the gaskets its still a good rule of thumb to run only as much boost (on a stock shortblock) as the stock gaskets can withstand so you dont break something

...Doesnt it also depend on the pistons? If its a 93 it will have hyper..w/etf theyre called pistons which I thought were not good for boost...although I would imagine the block would crack before the pistons

not really honestly.

on a stock shortblock, with forged pistons, if you run say 12lbs of boost, and too much timing, and/or too low octane fuel, your going to break something. the hyper may go faster, but if your tune is far off enough to detonate, you will break either piston.

The block doesnt care about boost, it cares about horsepower and at about 500 rwhp, the block is a grenade with the pin pulled.

Some guy ran 20psi on a stock motor and ran a 10.80. He used a T-trim with water injection. He had a really good tune on it. He did blow a headgasket.....but I would kinda expect that. I think his name is QuiwkTim over at the corral. Pretty sick.
