Does anybody have ant idea what the difference is between the 79-83 motor mounts and 84-93 mounts. I have an 83 GT and I want to get poly motor mounts but they only have for 84-93. What's so different?
Is there any additional input on this topic? I've got a 5.0 swapped into my Jeep using the 79-82 motor mounts. I'm shopping for new mounts, considering the 'verts. But don't want to order what I can't use. I've already had some issues with the "solid" mounts that Autozone sells. They just won't work!
the earlier mounts were quite different and won't fit in the regular mustang k member, and of course the earlier type mounts are basically impossible to find.
there is quite a bit of info on this topic on the forums at foureyedpride.com, you should find all the specifics if you search there.
Even the 86 mounts are different form the 87+ mounts. The 86 mounts sit higher and have more rubber "beef" in them. I tried installing a set of 87-93 cpatured vert mounts in my 86 and the it cause the motor to sit too far down. I ended up using a set of urethane after market mounts with some spacers between the mount and the block (courtesy of RNH Performance). Even then... I still had to loosend up the steering column and make some space between my large tube headers and the steering shaft.
I do not know what the specific differences are in the mounts for cars prior to 86 but it's a safe bet that if you're going to use aftermarket headers, that a set of mounts that push the motor a little further towards the top of the car will be in your best interest.
