For basics, here's the most used parts:

Intakes:

Holley
Edelbrock EFI/RPM/RPM 2
Trick Flow Street or Track Heat

Heads:

AFR 165
Trick Flow Twisted Wedge
Tmoss or thumper ported

Cams:

People love the custom FTI cams (3 months to deliver though)
Trick Flow stage 1
Crane 2031
Steeda 19

These are the parts I seem to see the most. Now search for them and research what the best combo is for you.

That's not that many miles for a 5.0 there are plent of them hitting the 150,000+ miles and still have plenty of life in them. But if you really want to rebuild it summit has a nice rebuild kit for the 5.0.

106,000 miles is a nice time to start modding the stock engine. I know a guy who was running his white '94 GT with 210,000 miles on the shortblock, nitroused and in the twelves. Unless you've developed problems (such as oil burning, rod knocking and the like) chances are, you are in fine shape.

At $2000, you've got just enough for a quality rebuild on the shortblock with nothing left for hot parts.

However, turn your attention away from a shortblock and towards some parts for the shortblock you've got now and you can choose a nice combination to make what you've got go.

If you're going to start slow (piece by piece versus a complete combination) go with exhaust. MAC makes a nice, easy to install exhaust, but it's loud. A quieter choice with every bit the airflow and made out of nicer materials is full Magnaflow system (2.5" stainless catback and X-pipe with cats) will set you back around $1300. In contrast, a full MAC system can be had for around $600-$700. Add a set of shorty headers from Ford Racing, BBK or MAC for $250-$350 and it will be a nice start. I recommend using headers with the exhaust swap because an exhaust swap alone will kill more low end torque. Also, an H-Pipe will provide more bottom end than an X-pipe...if that matters to you.
