Motor
Machine that converts other forms of energy into mechanical energy and so imparts motion.

Engine
Motor that converts thermal energy to mechanical work by its use of a fuel.

Just wanted to end the confusion, as i have seen lots of people call engine's motors. And it really annoys me sometime's , but its not always people's themselves fault, The industry that surrounds us doesnt help, when places sell things like motor mounts, Whats a motor mount, is that for mounting my winshield wiper motor? Oh you mean engine mount, got ya.

That is all

Every time I read I read "It's all motor" I can't help but think that they have a hybrid that ran out of gas.

By your definitions an engine is a kind of motor.

I have the direct inject headers system so my engine is more of a continuous motion machine.

not quite, an engine requires a fuel source to turn its energy into usable motion. While a motor requires a power source and cannot create its own energy.

like a wiper motor, requires electrical energy to convert its power into a motor movement.

whereas an engine makes its own power from a gasoline and requires no original energy to create its own energy.

so you're opinion is that gasoline isn't converted into mechanical energy to make cars move?????

you lucky somabitch, how did you get that? do you know how rare that is. I thought that was only a very very rare option available only on the chevy 350. I tried to find a mustang with the direct inject option and came up empty handed. You my friend have a needle in the haystack, hang on to that jem.

Ps. i couldnt get my self converted direct inject engine to run. it kept blowing the heads off the block at startup. can you help me make mine run?

What is the first word of your definition of the word engine you typed in post #1?

I believe you need to read into the definitions a little bit more than that

Think about it...

My opinion is that gasoline is not an energy. , but gasoline is converted used in an engine to created energy, but gasoline is not an energy its a fuel.

electricity is already current and therefore a motor converts that energy into a moving motion.

gasoline is just a fuel, that when given to an engine creates an energy or motion

see what im saying.?

This is like hearing about People getting upset when Brian Williams says "NEVADA" the wrong way. Who cares? I say both, but I'll try to say engine from now on.

according to the first def anything that requires kinetic, thermal, electric, or any other outside power source is a motor.
any internal combustion device used to produce motion is an engine which brings me to the steam engine. it runs off steam that it makes in the boiler, but it requires thermal energy from an outside source to create said steam.

all in all my direct inject system is much better.
