Just googling around and came across this. i know everyone knows these facts listed in the article but nontheless, still cool to read.

ill have to say tho, i didnt realize the PI cars were as "quick" in stock trim as what motortrend claims : "Yet, 0-60 mph in 5.4 seconds and a 14.0-second/100.2-mph quarter-mile run is as good or better than any stock Mustang we've ever tested, Cobra or not."

It was a big step in 1999, the GT was a competant performer. I remember that article.

"The SVT superpony seems hardly worth the extra $7,000".

Talk about slamming the Cobra. The pic of that yellow GT instantly reminded me that the first new edge Mustang I saw was exactly that color. A guy across the hall from me in my apartment building had a GT. I loved that bodystyle the first time I saw it. Especially after looking at 4 years of the '94-'98 and hating it.

I bet they got a Cobra that hadn't received 'The Fix' yet. I can imagine it not feeling much faster than a 2v that way.

I had the itch to buy a brand new Mustang in Sept. '93. The '94's were already out. I did'nt like the way they looked at all. I walked into the dealership and told them to find me a new '93 GT, not a '94. They drove one 300 miles from a dealership in Chicago to me. Had it 9 years and sold it before I got my Mach.

to each his own i guess, i love the 94-98 not because i have one its just a preference. i dont see how they are that much different than your body style though i mean a foxbody and a s197 are diff but 94-04 are all sn's

We all know the 2v isn't worth a damn, the mustang is just a girl's car, and that every other car out there is better in ever aspect.

I am kinda glad its not the in car to have like the 05+ cars. See a lot less gay **** done to them. The 2v cars can be fun and cost effective. They have thier quirks but all mustangs do.

No the Mustang in that test was a 5speed but cars they test in the mag always run a few tenths or more slower then when they end up in the hands of the consumer , when Car and Driver ran the 2002 Auto Mustang GT they ran a 15.1 at 93mph LOL , I have that mag and it was a group test including the SS Camaro , WS6 , Lightning , R/T Dakota and STP Grand prix , The SS camaro they ran did a mid 13 just to give you an Idea how off the times can be !

I've got a stash of old auto magazines testing Mustangs and special edition 'Stangs. My favorite is probably the OLD MotorTrend issue where they tested two "concept" Mustangs, one of which was the absolute beginnings of the 03/04 Cobra. It's pretty cool to go back and compare the differences between that concept Mustang and the 03/04. The other one was an N/A Cobra look-a-like and both were brutally fast for a Mustang back in that year... a lot of tech in those cars made its way into newer models.
