Mountain Home and Boise Area

Updated: Going to Mountain Home Idaho

I'm in the Air Force and have been stationed in Germany the last 5 years, I'm due to go back to the States in June of this year.

My assignment selections came out today and there were two slots at Mountain Home AFB, and one for Ellsworth AFB near Rapid City, South Dakota.

There's no way in He!! I'm choosing Ellsworth.

Can someone fill me in on the stang scene in the Mountain Home/Boise area. Drag strips, speedshops, Dyno and Tuning facilites etc.

And of course good communites to look at living in, in the Mountain Home area.

I won't know officially where I'm going until the first week in March.

Thanks

ellsworth was my favorite assignment when I was in. I would of gone back in a heartbeat. The fishing was great, tons of outdoor stuff, no crime, and if you get pulled over for going 10 over the speed limit or less. You could pay on the spot and it would not go on your insurance.

Now I was never stationed at Mountain Home. But I grew up there (granted it was the mid 80's). My dad was stationed there. Back then it was more remote than ellsworth. But I cannot vouch for this now.

Anyways, What do you do?
B1B?

I was Munitions.

I know that the car scene was REALLY big in Boise about three years ago, and from my understanding still is. It is one of the fastest growing cities in the US, if not the fastest. As for Mustang clubs and what not, I have not heard a lot come out of that area..... I have no idea why. I am sure there is something up there though. Two of my cousins live up there and have stangs so I will ask em what goes on over there.

I really appreciate you asking them, I really need to find a speed shop with a dyno and a great tuner for my recently rebuilt supercharged 90 GT. I will not go above 1/2 throttle til it's tuned and I'm sure the Mach could use some tweeking too.
Not a prob, its what NW stangnetters do! :SNSign:

Aircraft Electrical and Environmental Systems
I can work any airframe:D this what I've worked so far:
B-52H, KC-135A, U-2R/S, E-3A NATO AWACS, B-2, A-10, and F-16

Ellsworth will be B-1s and Mountain Home has F-15s

ahh sweet.

any information I could give you about Mnt Home would be 23 years old. I remember it snowed a bunch. I can also tell you boise was over an hours drive away.

Car scene is okay here in Boise.
There is a SCCA chapter here.
Firebird dragstrip (firebirdonlin.com) in Emment is where I go to flog the car.
Treasure Valley Mustang and Ford Club is pretty a big organization and have a good website.
Idahostreetracing.com is mostly for the import/sport compact scene but there are some domestics on there as well.
Meridian Motorsports has the dyno. Might be another in town just not sure where.
The closest tuning specialist that I know of are in the Portland, OR area.
You could buy a hand held and tune with advice from tuner forums.

Welcome to I DA HO:flag:

Thanks for the info, I already had the Firebird Dragstrip bookmarked.

I have two handheld tuners for the Mach, but the GT has more extensive mods ans can't use a handheld tuner.

Portland is like 7hrs away, I saw Salt Lake City is only 4 hrs, maybe they have a tuner.

you are an ELEN terd! lol! im a jet mechanic out of McChord. i used to work F15's at lakenheath. mountain home is rather far out from boise. it is quite a drive and a very straight rode! i dont remember how far but most people like it out there. check it on mapquest to see the area.

I just got here last Saturday from Kadena, I'm AMMO, and have an 03 Cobra that I haven't been able to drive for almost 3 years and now that the warrenty is up I am ready to go to town on it. I haven't done a lot of looking for speed shops yet but its not looking too good. There are however a crap load of mustangs on the base. Oh and Boise is not an hour away, I made from the airport to the gates of the base in 34mins in my Cobra:D

You Mt. Home AFB guys that want an expert on Mustangs need to look up Rods by Rule.
Guy works out of his garage in Eagle. He is absolutely a guru of the Mustang.
He is dead honest and is pretty reasonable on prices.

IYAAYAS.

Hey, did you see that Uncle Meat is on stangnet? It seemed that someone at most bomb dumps knew Uncle meat.

and Boise was a bit over an hours drive, in 1985. But my parents drove an 84 oldsmobile. Not a cobra.
