so some of you know i recently purchased a portable mp3 player.

i just got back from radio shack with a stereo to rca cable to connect the player up to the deck.

one thing about me is that i like things looking as 'clean' as possible. so i tried to figure out a way to keep this mini project as clean as possible.

first i considered feeding the line through my glove compartment, but the 15min i tried doing this failed because it felt like there were HVAC tubes blocking the passage to the deck. the only way i was able to successfully feed the line to the back of the deck was from underneath the dash on the passenger side.

i stopped to consider just leaving it like this and getting some velcro and mount it to the side of the center dash on the passengers side.

i then contemplated and got a little creative:

I removed the shifter trim (MGW FTW!):

I then removed the cigarette lighter

I fed the cable through the hole

Finished Work

The excess cord is hidden completely under the trim. nothing dangles. I think this will work great for me. Mounting brackets FTL.

i did the same thing, but i had a longer cord, and ran it completely through the center bezel all the way into the storage compartment. i drilled a 1/2 hole inside the storage compartment, just a few inches above the power adapter thats in there. the cord is long enough to pull out about a foot, plug my ipod into it, and sit it into one of the cup holders, this way its not in your way while shifting, and easier to grab, change songs etc. and you can still close the arm rest shut.

i dont think itll get too much in the way of the shifter...at least as long as you have a short throw.

excellent idea! i was planning on doing this eventually myself. since i am at school i dont have access to a drill or anything. this is a quick fix for now.

If you really wanted to clean it up, you could mount a female headphone jack (AUX input on new factory radios) down near the 12V, you could make a plate and mount it where the cig lighter is...then you could just plug in your male to male headphone wire and if you take it out, it'll be nice and clean....

That's what I was going to suggest. It would look much cleaner, and nearly factory.

Another idea... bring the cable through the hole for the E-brake. Then, the MP3 player can rest in the pocket where the E-brake handle rests. There's plenty of room in there for a flat mp3 and it won't fall out.

To me, anything sitting next to the shifter drives me mad. First of all, anytime you lay into the gas in 1st, the mp3 will go flying into the back seat. Secondly, it will be moving around from the shift boot moving and would generally feel in the way.

this is all new to me. its been raining up here for the past few days so ive not had the chance to drive it and have these experiences myself. the cord is rigid enough where it shouldnt allow the player to shoot back when i take off. it moving around is a different story...it will probably annoy me . i didnt consider that.

for now i think itll be ok till i can tinker with it in nicer weather. all great advice though!
