I forget who it was, but somebody asked if our stangs have a speed cutoff... Well I know the pic is small and blurry but it was taken with my cellphone.

You went that fast, and with 4.10's?!!? That almost seems impossible... Did you have you speedo recalibrated after the gears?

with 3.73 I have gone into the 140s and ran out of motor and gear meaning 5th gear and about 5500 rpms so you see that its really not possible unless. You are just poving a point that there is no limiter and you were going about 100.

Or the stuff is sitting on a shelf and just made for a good pic. Let's see...Stock Tranny and Motor, .68 5th gear and 4.10's in the rear. With 16" tires, 4.10 gears and .68 tranny gear ratio, you would need 9496 RPM to achieve it. With 17" tires, 4.10 gears and .68 tranny gears, you would need 8937 RPM. And with 18" tires, 4.10 gears and .68 tranny gear, you would need 8441 RPM. So I say, NOT!!! It is sitting on a workbench isn't it?

No, this is with 4.10's and a 4spd AODE trans. I have not replaced the gear for the speedo and you're right, i was not doing 150+. I'm just showing that the car did not start to turn off. I don't think that the car would know if i had 4.10's... It should still cut off at a certain level and didn't.

that's the main point.

I thought everyone knew the car didn't have a speed cutoff. It is right there in the twEECer calibration.

why does it matter if there are 17's or 18's? tire size should be such that the overall diameter and circumference is the same as or VERY close to stock. 18's = smaller aspect ratio, thus maintaining the same overall height. sound similar to when people say you need to get bigger rims to fill in the fender gap on non-lowered cars. lol.

Check out the web sites, Bill. Look for formulas for gear ratios and wheel sizes. It's really not anymore than basic math.

I once played around with a mustang top speed calculator excel file, you had to input your tranny gear ratios, axle ratio and tire size and it would calculate what RPM's you'd be doing for each of the five gears at a specific mph. It calculated that with my 3.73's and 275/40 17's, and the stock 0.68 OD, I could go about 168mph at just under 6000rpm. I still find that hard to believe, and have no intentions on proving it correct or wrong. maybe someone will post-up a link, I forgot where I got it, and have since deleted it.

mustangs are "drag" limited to IIRC 142-146mph or something like that. The only speed limit seems to be more of a fuel dump to make it run richer and slow you down.
