anyone install one of these before?

How the hell do you make it tight. The instructions say...use a wrench to tighten the jam nut. The only problem is, you can't put a wrench on it, because it goes inside the freakin knob.

WTF, how the hell do you tighten it?

Hmmm, looks like I have the same knob just without the pony on it. I guess I don't understand how the jam nut would go up inside the knob...is it recessed on the underside? That would make it difficult! Let me go snap a pic of the underside of mine and I'll upload it - be right back (digital - the only way to go!)

See attached close up of mine; the boot is pushed down a little so you can see better...
When installing this knob, I pushed the boot down, ran the jam nut down the handle, spun the knob on to my liking, then held it in place and ran the jam nut up to the knob by hand then a little tweak with an adjustable wrench to lock it in place. Then I pulled the boot up as tightly as I could.
The only thing I can think of on yours is that maybe the brass sleeve is getting pushed up into the knob?
Let me know how it turns out...

thanks for the pic....

Mine is different, maybe i can get a pic tomorrow.

The brass section is recessed into the knob. It came like that. The nut goes up into the knob, and there is no way I can tighten it.

Time to call MRT i guess

Well, if you can't tighened the jam nut, can you thread it to about where you want, then holding jam nut with your fingertips (or needlenose pliers or ?) and tightening the knob down to the jam nut? It may take a bit of trial and error...

I have the same knob and what I had to do was keep backing up the jam nut. Then just I tightened the knob down until it lined up where I wanted. It took several tries until I got it where I wanted it but it looks really good and hasn't move at all.

Yep, that was my thought in the above post...kinda crazy that you have to fight with it this way, but I think it'll work, with a bit of trial and error. From what I've seen, he's installing his Tri-Ax tomorrow, so with this info, he should be good to go.
Hey, don't forget 8cyl, give us a progress report & pics tomorrow - we wanna see!

I got a Bullitt shift knob from CDC. $55, look bad a$$ and easy as hell to install. No jam nut or anything, just screw it on and you're done.

Mine was the same way, I got the white knob. I used a screwdriver against the flat edge of the nut from up underneath and basically used trial and error tightening the knob against the nut until it was where I wanted it. Damn thing took me almost 45 minutes to install and I had to pick up a date. Needless to say she was a bit *#@!ed at me. Hope that helps!

UPDATE

I just bought a wider nut. It works great. I can get a wrench on it cuz it hangs down a little.

Thanks for all the help!
