Where is the best place in the world to mount an MSD 6A box under the hood of a fox body 5.0, please post pics if you got em, I was thinking where the old air box was on the passanger side and running the wires over if they long enough.

the best place in the world to mount the box under the hood is under the hood.

were i doing it, i might put the box inside the car (not what you asked, i know).

do you have the battery in the front still?

Yeah its still in its stock spot, I forgot to mention that, it does make a big difference in locations. I've been told to mount inside the car under the passager seat, I would but what wire would is use? 12 gauge? And i could just cut the boxs' wire, put mine in and thread it together and tape it up? Would that work? Anybody....help....I'm scared

if you are not comfy wiring (soldering in new wire to extend the harness), i would find a friend who is, or not do that.

when i do stuff like that, i solder in wire that is one gauge bigger (one range numerically smaller) than the wire i am splicing/extending). might be more than you want to bite off.

the pass fender or firewall are the next best places that i can think of (some have done it under the cowl in a cowl hood, if you have a cowl).

Originally I installed my 6al under the cowl vent. I have since moved it under the hood, where the stock air box was. I have not had any functionality issues with either of these locations. The only reason I moved the box under the hood was so that it would be easier to swap out the limiter chips. You won't need to do this. I have also seen it placed on the firewall.

I think MSD sells extension kits, if you do want to go inside the car without soldering.

Mine is mounted on pass. side inside the car near the area where console and firewall meet.

Reason for this is because I had a box cook under the hood of a mach1 I had.

I also have rev controls and ign. retard setup for my NOS. All thats mounted on the rear seat delete near the bottle.

It just helped get the wiring in a central location.
+ I'm a big fan of super clean engine bays so this helped move some wiring.

Me too, under the batter was a perfect spot as you were still close to the coil to hook up the harness, close to the battery for power and your choice for a ground. I fabbed up a metal piece and there are threaded nuts on the frame rail under the battery to which I mount the metal piece and then attached the 6A to, works great and never drilled a single hole in my car!

Can some post pictures of what you have done? And if MSD does sell an exstension kit for it, bless their hearts, I'll probably buy it. I should mention that I am kinda a tech trainee, I've taken an auto tech class and work at a dealership and have some experience with wiring, but not nearly enough to where I want to cut the wires to this box. Thanks guys, I love you all.

i wouldn't put it under the battery, batteries leak acid and that rusts and corrodes things. mainly things under the battery.

Thats what the battery tray is for! There is not a hint of rust anywhere under my battery and the car is 13 years old and the battery has been in the car since 97.

You are really having bad electrical or battery problems if it is spilling that much acid out that its cracking your trays and rotting the entire underside of the battery, you may want to get everything checked out. You could also put down a battery mat to stop all that leaking acid or maybe switch to a sealed battery then you could put whatever you want under it.

plastic gets old and brittle, just saying it can happen, i don't have that problem though. i know on my old 76 the inner fender is rusted out where the battery was. how would the msd box fit under the tray though. any pics.

I pulled out the battery and battery tray this afternoon and saw where you might be able to fit the MSD unit but could you please post a few pics so I can see it for sure? Merry Christmas to all

There is a Frame Rail running under the battery tray, and Ford for whatever reasons have several holes with threads in them in that frame rail. I just fabbed up a flat piece of metal, bolted my MSD Box to it and then bolted right into those threaded holes. Installed everything WITHOUT drilling a single hole in the car.
