Hi guys,

Im looking for a new ignition system for my fox, i know the stock one is good for 300 hp ish and im not planning on getting up close to that but i like the idea of the multiple spark CD ignitions. My fox needs a new coil and wires any ways so i thought i might treat it to an MSD 6AL2... that was until i read a bunch of post on here (when the search finally worked) saying that the quality of the MSD stuff has gone down hill since production moved to China.

This got me looking for an alternative and I ended up at the door of the mallory 6al2, same name and pretty much EXACTLY the same installation booklet as the MSD!!!

so, just looking for some advice on which way to go with it, im leaning on the mallory one, assuming its made in the USA still, nothing against building stuff in china but only if the quality is the same. People on here have said its not as good...

so, any advice/recommendations greatly recieved

thanks

I didn't know msd moved to china, that does explain alot. Their coils have a pretty bad failure rate, i know that for sure.

Ignition upgrades will probably cost you around 300-400 bucks, put that money into the heads.

I put an msd on my engine, and it didn't change a damn thing.

save your money. unless you are making big power or running a power adder you don't need it.

I've never had a problem with my crane box, but I think crane has recently gone the way of the dinosaur

I've actually read about a restructure and re-opening of crane very soon...so they're not dead.

i have an msd 6al on my car. it's not bad, a little bit better throttle response, seems a bit more smooth in the higher rpms as well. really the best part is just having the rev limiter. the price of the box outweighs the benefits imo, at least at the level my car is at. unless you're dead set on getting an ignition box, i'd spend the money else where. and if you do end up getting one, look at accel's stuff, it's actually pretty good.
