MSD sells this HEI distributor for maybe 1/2 of price of other distributors they sell which also need a separate coil. Is it worth to put it into 302? Anybody has an experience with this distributor, with its reliability, or what could be worse compared to the higher priced models? And first of all, does it fit to sbf?

thats msd's answer to the cheap procomp distributors on the market, you can get one just like it for around 75 bucks on ebay, I bought a procomp billet dist complete with recurved advance for my engine for 159.00 very nice quality. I'm not sure but I would guess msd's lower end line is made in china as well.

Go to ebay and punch in "302 distributor" and you will see them.

Here is a review of the prcomp distributor from another forum:

Here is my Opinion well, it isn't really an opinion because I own one of the products.
I own the Procomp MSD knock-off distributor. Its a peice of ****. Every single one of the terminals on the cap pulled out of the cap itself when pulling wires off, the ignition module crapped out within a few months so it wouldnt start occasionally and i'm getting a oily residue inside of the cap itself which can't be good. Oil isn't very conductive if at all.

If this is an indication of the quality of other Pro-Comp products, i'd stay away. Expecially when its something like cylinder heads that could cause major damage.

I'm not the only one with a problem with their distributors either.

I dont see the link, I probably read it though. What I have found is for every 5 people that hate them, 5 people love them......same with msd products, their quality has gone down and if you look on some other forums you will see that msd is making alot of their stuff in china as well......its a shame but reality. I have a chinese crank, rods in my stroker, most people cant afford to spend 15k on an all american engine. I dont like it but the fricken chinese are taking over and just about everything we buy is from there or partly and it sucks, all I can say is for what I paid it seems to be nice quality, some of the crap sold on ebay for real cheap are seconds or rejects.............

I learned in the meanwhile from MSD that street fire is only for chevys (shall I trust it or not that does not fit to fords?).

So then what is the best and reliable HEI (I don't want nonHEI) distributor for sbf for around 100-150 bucks? Summit sells MSD for fords $250+ ... no thank you.
