Msd Tach and Shift Light Install on stock Ignition???

I am wanting to hook up a shift light becaus eit seems my stock tach is way off..... If I were to just hook up a shift light... Would I need liek the Msd Rpm Activation box... and put a pull in it to kick on around desired rpm? Would I need anything else to do this? Or would I need to install a tach adapter for it to work properly?

most shift lights hook up to the green striped wire on your coil, maybe someone else can chime in as well, i'm sure if you search you will find this also

i have mines conected to the tach cable on the rear dash and it works!

its a auto meter shift light with the chip on it!
