ok, im ready to buy my whole MSD system! what ignition box, coil, and distributor do you guys recomend as a good combo??

I have the billit distributor, the 6AL ignition box and blaster 2 coil and I'm very happy.

Billet dizzy, digital 6, and blaster coil.

Never have had any problems w/my MSD stuf... thought I did once and when I called for an RMA I told them I needed it back quick. They exchanged it for a new one and it was in my grubby hands w/in a week. Turns out I was using an intermittent lead for my 12v power

Of those three. probably the dizzy is the least necessary. If the curve and condition of your dizzy is decent, throw a Pertronix in it, hook up a 6AL box and use the Blaster coil. The billet looks nice, but isn't really necessary.

Have a look at the Crane Cams stuff. I just finished installing a Crane ignition combo. I like it alot.
I got the HI-6 Ignition box, the optical trigger street/strip distributor (The one without springs and weights), a PS-92 coil, and FireWire spark plug wires.

I'm using a Jacobs 2000 box, their coil and a Crane optical dizzy. I like the Jacobs box because it will fire even if the battery is low (good to a bit less than 8V), unlike what I have heard about MSD which requires a full 12V. Since my '66 is an occasional driver, I like the idea of firing the motor even if the battery gets a little low.

I was using an MSD ready to run until it decided to not to run. The module had become heat sensitive, this was after less than 500 miles. I used a Ford Dura spark unit until I installed the EFI.

I looked at these new units from Crane and think they are really nice. Preprogrammed advance curves for both mechanical and vacuum advance are built in these units. They have a small diameter and large diameter cap version.

what is the diffrence between both mechanical and vacuum advance? im kinda new to this stuff and just want to know what im buying. thankz!

+1 for the Crane ignition system. Simple install and even easier tuining. No springs to swap etc. Simple turn of the dial allows you to adjust the advance rates for various RPM ranges etc... Good looking piece to boot.

You mean you can start your car w/only 8V?!?!?! I can't even get my starter to crank over


six_5, is your car stock or ???? You can obviously spend a lot on ignition and all items may not be applicable to your needs.

MSD setup here. I suggest saving your money on the dissy and just a pertronics setup. I didn't have the factory distributor when I bought the car so I opted just to get the MSD one but there really isn't any gains in it... especially 200+ bucks worth.

8Volt start? Heck no, but 11.5V - maybe and the spark would be there. Also, if the alternator blows on the road, the battery will keep you going longer if the box doesn't require 12V.
