Guys,

I'm currently running BFG 275/40/17 drag radials on 17x8 Bullitt wheels.

I'm considering moving to the Mickey Thomson drag radial in 255/50/16 mounted on my stock 16x7 waffles for track use.

I know that there will be a weight advantage to the 16s/MTs.

Will the 255/50/16 MTs provide a significant improvement in traction over the 275/40/17 BFGs? I think that the extra sidewall combined with the better compound and tread pattern of the MTs would provide a big advantage....anyone know?

Feedback is appreciated. Thanks,
Shawn

Why move from 17" to 16" for weight savings when you can skip the 16" wheel AND tire and go for a 15" package for the most amount of weight savings.

Something like a Prostar or Draglite wheel and the DR of your choice.

You will also get a taller side wall with the 15" setup which will help with hook.

Never forget that, you gotta turn those heavy waffles all the way down the 1320 ;)

...because I'm on a major budget and I already have a set of 16" waffles.

Does anyone know how many passes you can normally get out of a set of bias-ply ET streets? Like I said, I may have a line on a local set of these for real cheap, already mounted and ready to go.

The 255/50/16 MT Radials HOOK! I have driven my friend's 98 Z28 automatic car to a 7.35 in the 1/8 on them, pulled a 1.59 60 ft on that pass, did a 7.36 in the car the day the transmission blew up, pulled a 1.55 60 ft and pulled the left front. Driven 40 miles to the track on those tires!
