Seems the SVT Focus never caught on with the consumers. I was watching the world rally on Speed channel and I thought I heard that the new Focus they were competing with was all wheel drive.
Is this true?

I've heard the same...no SVT's till '06. Ive also heard that there will be a replacement for the no longer produced SVT Focus. SVT's going to do their stuff on one of the other new platforms.....we'll see!

i've always wondered why they never produced an SVT Taurus, or an SVT Explorer. I know there were Prototypes for an SVT Explorer released at the Detroit Auto Show a few years back, but it never went into production. It'd essentially be a Lightning with a back seat. I'd put money on an SVT Explorer selling like crazy.

Rumor has it the "cobra" name for the SVT mustangs could be dropped due to Shelby wanting the cobra name on it.

I suspect that the reason the Focus didn't catch on with the kids was marketing. When at my dealerI,d be B.S.in with my sales guy and a young fellow would walk in and literally get shooed away by the older sales people. Either take one and leave it outside during business hours to be test driven or sell at all dealers to get the word out. I personally turned two people on to Focus SVT's (02-03) and one to a Lightening(02). Just a lack of knowledge on the part of both sides.

I heard the same. Can anyone tell me if there is any truth to this?

iunno if that is true or not. Legally Ford owns the Cobra name, so Shelby can "want" all they want. But as of now Ford has rights to it. Thats not to say that Shelby won't get it, but for now its Ford's.

Funny...its the opposite with me. Ive always wondered why they made an SVT Focus and SVT Contour. When I think SVT I think strickly hauling balls performance, no compromises. Slow family cars ruin SVTs image. Im glad they killed the SVT Focus and Contour. And Im also glad that in 06 SVT will be stepping it up with the mustang and lighting. The Lightning had better remain a single cab sports truck. I dont think SVT will be making the mistake again of using a family vehicle in their lineup.

No truth to the rumor. Ford owns the Cobra name and SVT states there will be a Mustang Cobra. Ford and Shelby fought over the name back in 93, the Cobra was almost called the GT Plus.
