I just replaced the stock exhaust on my '88 Mustang LX 5.0L with a Bassani system: Bassani equal length shorty headers, Bassani X pipe w/ hi flow cats, Bassani catback system. It flows nice but the exhaust is louder than I wanted. My car's a convertible and it gets too loud with the top down. The drone at 2K is the worst of it. I'm thinking that a muffler change would help. I've heard that the Corsa dB series eliminates drone (resonance chambers for noise cancellation). The Corsa are a straight through pipe though. Any idea whether they would be louder or quieter overall than my Bassanis? I'd appreciate some advice. Thanks!

you getting rid of the bassani cat back or just the mufflers? I had Dyomax Super Turbos and they were a mellower sound and I did not have the drone.... my daughter has flows on her vert and it sounds nice however it is louder than my supers..

New Mufflers

I was just planning to replace the mufflers. I really like the Bassani pipes. I just want a mellower sound and less drone. I've seen postings of homemade resonance chambers to eliminate drone. It would be easy enough to add but I hate to hack up my pipes without knowing the results. I figured that different mufflers might be the way to go.

there is calculator how you can move your drone rpm.

I have 91 GT with trickflow kit and pypes catted x-pipe, pypes pipes and thrush welded (flowmaster 40 series copy) mufflers.

It had bad drone on pypes mufflers and 18" magnaflows on 2000rpm.
I cut 2.250 Feet of my tails and it was perfect so I put thrush mufflers on and now it's spot on. You can hear exhaust allmoust same volume on idle and 2000rpm and it isn't too loud.

It's same effect if you cut off or add section of pipe.
