Ok ok i know, this quetion has probabally been asked countless times on this board. But this is a question of opinion not fact, and opinions change so i think its time for a new thread.

I need your opinions on the best sounding mufflers. I'm looking something with a more aggresive sound. But not something that has a bad reputation for interior drone like the Flowmaster 40's have.

I have had flow 40's and they did drone when I had them dumped. I finally got it set up exactly how I want it and it sounds killer.

From my 3" header collectors it goes 3" into a Dr. Gas X pipe which is 3" in and 2.5" out, from that to Borla XR1 race mufflers and dumped. This system does not drone and believe it or not is actually quieter at idle than the 40's. It has the best overall sound in my opinion. A little pricey for the X and mufflers but worth it. When I pull into a car show or any car gathering people stop and stare, could be that cam lope but it just sounds sweet.

I currently have hedman shorty's ceramic coatedthat goto an H pope. I'm told my current mufflers are dynomax "hemi turbo". But i havn't been able to find much info on these?? They sound good but i want a little more aggresive.

Thanks for the info on the Borla XR1's. Mine prolly wouldn't sound as good as yours because i kept a very mild cam in my 347 for a smooth idle which im' almost regreting hah.

I've tried or heard countless muffs and it boils down to opinions. I like the sound of the classic flowmasters... reminds me of the good ol' days. I like the XR1's; great sound at WOT! I also like the Mac pro dumps (3" in and out). I guess those are the ones I'd get if it were me.

After having Flow 40's for 10 years, i wanted something quiet and chose Dynomax Super Turbos. They sound nice with an X-Pipe and lumpy cam.

the flowmaster delta 40's are quieter than the regular 40's and had a slight drone at 40 when i dumped out the muffs, but i just put my tailpipes out the back and it sounds so clean the "drone" dies off and is quiet in my 65 coupe. might be the fact that i only have a 289..i'm sure a 347 would be a slight louder..so i might suggest a delta 50 series, for SUV's and stuff..has a nice sound and is still pretty quiet.

I've heard good things about the Spintech ProStreet's. Anyone have any experience with these with an H pipe? Much drone?

i had spintechs with an X pipe, and i like my flowmasters better. the spintechs have a different sound though, not your everyday muscle car.

I just had a set of Flowmaster Delta 50's installed with my Hooker Comp long tube headers and I love them! I heard about the drone of the 40 series and decided to go with the 50's. Sound is aggressive at idle, but not overwhelming at all on the interior. The best part is when you get on it, it's like the beast gets unleashed You don't want to use the SUV 50's as they are a bigger case I believe. I had an exhaust shop do the install from the headers back with custom bent 2.5" aluminized pipe and the system fits up nice and tight. I don't thnk you will have regrets with the 50's.

I run the Magnaflows thru a custom H pipe, and Headman headers. I have them dumped right before the rear axles. Many have told me that my car sounds very good. Its not super loud, and it does not drone inside the car, but at WOT it sounds dam mean.

I got a chance to listen the other day and the vale(spelling?) brought my car up. Heh it did sound dam good :SNSign:

here here, thanks for the correction on the SUV. i may invest on some Delta 50's as well if my car gets any louder .

Your cam choice will have a big effect on the sound of the muffler you choose. I have the Flowmaster 50's as well and they sounded "OK" but when I went with a bigger, more aggressive cam they sound a lot better.

I have the 3 chamber Flowmasters which I believe are now called the 50's and they sound just as jcode68 mentioned, reserved when easy on the gas and come alive when on the throttle. I got those after driving my dad's car with the 40's. The highway drone would give me a headache.
