Mustang got rear-ended.

So I was stopped on a two lane road waiting for the car in front of me to make a left turn into a different road. The car behind me was coming at about 60-65 (45 mph limit) and didn't have enough time to stop because apparently he wasn't paying attention (most likely DUI). His airbag deployed and my fuel pump was cut off which makes me think he was going at least 35mph at the point of impact. The left tailpipe is fubar'd and I'm wondering if there is/are any mechanical parts that could be damaged? (ex. rear end assy, other drivetrain parts) Right now it is at the body shop and the body/frame is getting checked out. I never had a chance to drive it since I got the car towed to the shop.

Depends on how far in the guy smashed your car in. Your axle SHOULD be fine if he was goin around 35, but I'm sure the body shop will check up on this...Also when you drive it again once it is repaired I'm sure you'd know if the axle was bent

Sorry about the bad luck, I'm always worried about dumbasses doing the same thing to my pony.

Hope it all works out alright and your car gets back to standard

Hey man i like your christmas song on your webpage. I have a few guys that have rice and i am going to send them that. I hope everything works out for you car. It looked real good. There is not really any mechanical parts in the back of the car to damage until you get to the rear axle other than the fuel tank and pump. Make sure the body shop checks the frame really good. A bent frame can cause all kinds of problems down the road. Good luck with the repairs.

Sorry to hear that man..

..One minute ur helping me with the 5 speed, the next minute ur mustang gets rear-ended.

Make sure that the suspension parts are not bent. Can you get a rear Saleen bumper and new catback out of the deal? The other dude's insurance is going to kick in to pay, right?

Yes, their insurance is paying everything from the chiropractor (my neck is screwed) to the repair bills. I might be able to gain some extra $$ out of this since I'm hiring a lawyer. And yes, I'm trying to get a Magnaflow catback or a Borla stinger out of this deal (see my other post ) http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=518037

No way you're gona bend the axel via direct hit in the back. You'd have to hit it on either side to bend it. TRUST ME.......I KNOW driving them stangs is a bitch in the rain

I was rear ended in my 95GT.

Look at your exhaust and see how far ir was pushed in (if at all).

Inspect the shock and ESPECIALLY the brake lines.

I went to a body shop that just hung parts to make a quick buck....they missed this. The brakes lost fluid through a small erossion type puncture caused by contacting the exhaust.

I'd worry about the frame and the possible problems that can create... (if you havent seen my worry thread about all that ) Check all your car seams, door jambs, trunk, hood, how they close and open, drive over speedbumps slowly and see if there is a different or bad flex, different angles, etc.
