I have a 1994 ford mustang cobra. A couple of months ago the rpms started surging and the car cuts out when at idle acceleration and at crusing speed. This is my first car and i can not find out what is wrong with it and i dont have a check engine light on and cant have a test done on it cause i dont have a cadillac converter instead i have a off road h-pipe. I have replaced the fuel filter, spark plugs and wires, mass air flow sensor, O2 sensor, TPS sensor. And i also checked the fuel injectors and fuel pressure and are all working fine. And also all the pressur is normal in the engine. I dont know what to do and my brother is in iraq and cant help me. So please if someone has any advice that can help!

Thank you for your help and your time,
Spencer

Spencer,

Welcome. You have jsut found betst group of guys (some gals) that know a TON about mustangs.

Please make a sig with your mods (if any) as they will help to diagnose. Also put in your location as many times a local stanger can stop by to help.

Based on what you are saying I would suspect that your fuel pump is on the way out. It is pretty common. What is the age of the car (miles) and has the pump ever been changed that you know of?

It has about a 150,000 miles on it and i just got the car from my brother that was shipped to iraq so i have no idea. But my guess would be that is hasnt. do you know how much a new fuel pump would run?

Pumps are about $100 and a few hours to change yourself. Not the cheapest thing but with everything else you have already done it definitely fits with the equation.

Most will say to buy a pump the size you will ever need. Many times this means a 255lph pump. You can get them at summit, jegs, or almost anywhere. I would suggest Summit as thier service has always been great to me.

B4 throwing parts at it there are was to test things. Like what is the vac at idle , fuel pressure at idle and when its going down the road . TPS reading you just dont throw parts and hope to get lucky.
Learn abought how the motor operates ,what sensor do what and how you can trouble shoot them. then pick your car apart.
