Hey guys, I am new here. I recently was able to snag a 67 fastback for only 500 bucks. its a complete car just needs some serious face lifting. This is my first real classic I am diving into, I am 25 years old and have always been into import/tuners. But they have driven me nuts now so I am furthering my knowledge into this beauty. My dad mentioned going to an IFS setup and removing the towers for clearance and just all around cleanliness.

Here is the questions, I have seen many kits online for sale anywhere from 1200 to 3000 dollars.. I can snag a 5 lug v8 Mustang II right now running for about 400 bucks. Am I not able to just rob the suspension off the front of the donor so I can save a few bucks?? Or is the kit pretty much my main option?

I am a rookie to this, I have read some of the topics on the forums but this has not really been answered as far as I found. On a budget with bills and stuff so any way I can save some $$ I need to. Please give me some good insight on this question!! I need the help!

what do you plan to use the car for? The only reason I could see to use a MII setup is with a Bigblock (460 based) drag car, with big racing headers.(or a 4.6l, which is too big, in my opinion).
Anything else, I'd just modify the stock style to fit my use.

I've got nothing against the MII setup. But unless you have a good reason to cut up your car, like adding a mod motor or big block with headers, you are planning a lot of work for very little (if any) improvment.
You can NOT swap a MII front end because the frame rails are different widths. Or I guess you could if you made a new cradle/cross member, but then I don't think the rack would be correct.
Plus there is a lot more $$ to the kits than the initial price. If you are worried about money, this is NOT the way to go for you.
I'd suggest you look at the following companies. Much cheaper, great results.

Open tracker Products
Maier Racing
Street or Track
Global West
Total Control Products (TCP)

I'm just wrapping up the total control system for my car with power steering, and disc brakes. i the package cost me 10k for the front. The stuff is great, but not if your on a budget......
There's lots of good stock style stuff out there for a cheap price. Just keep looking and asking questions..

I'm with the other guys here. For very little money you can have substantial improvements in your cars ride quality and handling, using the stock suspension components, and a whole lot less work than going to a MII setup.

The things you have to decide on are what you want your car to do, and how much you want to spend.

IIRC, the general consensus would be:
Arning/Shelby Drop (free)
Export Brace (i believe around 50-75 Get the Thicker Deep drawn one)
Thicker Front sway bar 1" to 1-1/4"
Better Shocks
Subframe connectors
Roller Spring perch (can either buy this, or I've seen online instructions on how to convert your originals)
Adjustable strut rods
under rider traction bars or Caltracs
And front and rear springs (which ones will depend a lot on your preferred stance and drivetrain)

None of these things need to be done at once, and each will help the others. You can also box your upper and lower control arms.

Good luck, and feel free to add anything I may have missed.
