Mustang IRS NEW WEB PAGE IS DONE!!! Please comment

As always your articles are very well done. You might want to run it through a spell checker just because. Maybe I'll put an irs in my next classic. This one is going to stay solid axle for sure. How much HP/Torque can that rear end hold ?

Thanks, i will post more as I get more done. I am writing page three and should have it done in the next month.

Someone said they were 'dirt cheap'...what do you call 'dirt cheap'. We put a full Jag (front and rear and steering) under a 32 sedan back in 74 and it worked very well...but I would not call it 'dirt cheap'..especially after having to rebuild everything. I can buy a Heidgt's IRS with 9" center section with QA-1 double adjustable coil-overs and posi for about $5k.....install time is about 16 hours...how does the Jag compare?
BTW, you may have seen the 32 over the years..pearl white, full Jag, 351-W, c-4, black tuck-n-roll interior, all original 32 steel. Guy in Florida bought it in 1980 if my mind is working this morning. As soon as I get the digital camara working I'll try an dpost some shot of the chassis before the engiine/transmission install. God, it was georgous.

Good questions. I paid $200, for the full unit, $350.00 for a rebuild kit (bearings, bushings, seals, rotors, caliper kits, and u-joints In short everything needed to rebuild the unit except the center section parts), $400 far parts AND labor to rebuild the center-section with all new bearings, seals, and an auburn gear powerloc carrier, $190 to have the half shafts narrowed and once I have them tack welded I will have the LCAs welded by a certified welder, probably $50.00. I won't include what I have in to powder coating because a person could easily paint the parts so the total NOT INCLUDING TIME would be $1190, which when compared to 5K would be dirt cheep assuming you have the time. The other thing I like is by doing it my way a person can invest a little bit at a time rather than having to come up with a full amount all at once.

It is going to be a little wile. My wife convinced me that I need to finish one car so 75% of my efforts are being focused on my 62 Galaxie. I have had a little time to work on the IRS and home made coil over set up for my Mustang but am currently held up by a lack of funds.
