Mustang Safety?

I'm 17 and looking to get a 2012 Mustang V6 (can't afford the GT). My parents are satisfied with the safety of the front seats, but they are not convinced that the rear seats are safe in a side impact. Are there any recent statistics or information oher than crash tests concerning the Mustang's safety, particularly in the rear seats?

Mustangs are made to crush to absorb the shock of an impact.
I know.... had a 1 car accident in my 99 GT, long story short, I barely
had a bruise from a front end crash, car totaled, both air bags deployed.
I actually drove the car home as it was still running.
But really Ford has done a great job with safty.

ya mustangs have always been on top with safety i think it was the first convertible car to ever get a 5 star crash rating.

Safety is a lot more dependent on the DRIVER than the airbags.

Take every opportunity you can to get more driver training! The regular courses in the US now are a complete joke, and don't come anywhere near preparing you to be a truly "good" driver. Check around for some advanced driver courses in your area. Your family, friends and your insurance company will thank you!

Explain to them that the only time anyone will be in the back seat is when the car is parked.

Concentrating on NOT having collisions is the real safety in vehicles.

I just hate that we emphasize passive safety and relieve drivers of responsibility.

I'm an old geezer with 53 years of driving experience and have over one million miles of wheel time.

I've had two crashes, both in snowy conditions (1971 and 1987) and both resulted in minimal damage.

^^^^This. Only protection youll need now. You're 17 and worried about crash protection in a new car? New cars need to pass SO many safety suspections its ridiculous. I'm 18 and could care less about how safe a car is, its how you drive the car that determines how safe it is.

With all the safety features of the Mustang, you and your passengers are well protected! I do not have specific ratings on side impact on rear passengers, as those are conducted by independent parties, but here are some of the great features it has:

the severity of the crash, driver and passenger safety belt

I agree wholeheartedly. The best safety feature in the car is the driver's attention. Drive actively, engaged in the experience of driving. In my opinion, the best way to do this is to avoid automatic transmissions. If you don't know stick yet, learn it.

Dang, I wish my parents had bought me a brand new Mustang when I was 17. Must be loaded.

Mustangs are very safe. I was reared back in August in my 01 GT. Got hit so hard I ended up hitting the car in front (the car in front must of not had insurance because they took off as fast as they could). My car was totaled but I had not a cut or bruise on me. So I bought my current 07 GT 2 months after.

Mustang Safety?
