I recently purchased a stock 89 5.0 LX that according to the owner would not stay on due to some minor air leaks. When I would turn the key on it would start but shut off sounding as if too much fuel was being delivered. I asked if the fuel pump was bad, he said it had a new 90lb. I replaced all the upper intake gaskets and hoses, nothing. Cleaned the IAC, removed the plugs which were black and covered in gas. The other night I tried starting it again and with the petal to the floor It would not go further than 1000rpm, but when I removed the sensor for the mass air it would go past that and still try to shut off. As long as I was pumping the gas it tried to stay on, did this for about 5 min. The strange thing was the headers were cold. He mentioned that he had a GT40 upper and lower intake, could they have put the lower intake on wrong. Anyone have any suggestions?
