A bunch of us went to the track last night. It was hotter as all hell, probably 95* but it felt like 105*, humidity through the roof. Just terrible conditions for racing. Nonetheless, we had this planned for over a month and had a great turnout. As the sun went down conditions became more bearable but still in the hugh 80's and very sticky.

Anyway, my friend was running his 03 Cobra trying for a new PB. Considering the conditions he was running very well. PB is 10.19 in decent weather, (keep in mind this is a 1000' track), and he had just clicked off a 10.23. He lined up again between bracket races and let the car cool a little.

While we were sitting there, his wife (the car is actually in her name, so theres a running joke that its "her car") overheard the guy in front of us, who was driving a silver Z28 LS1, say to his friends "Mustangs are overrated" while looking our way. Well, this woman is a little firecracker when it comes to that car. So right away she tell my friend, "you gotta race this guy, please kick his ass!" LOL.

Sure enough, he walks back and says he wants to race. My friend, who is the nicest, probably funniest guy I know, says sure, "but take it easy on me." To which the LS1 driver replies, "But you have a supercharger" View attachment 374605

So now my friend is kinda irked by this guy, since he just used the biggest Pre-Race Ricer excuse in the history of racing, (next to being low on blinker fluid, of course). To further piss him off, the guy shuts my friends hood as hes walking back to his LS1. No one asked him to do it, he just did. I know its trivial, but Im sure most of you guys dont like when someone you dont know puts his mitts on your car either.

So, thats the set-up for the race. I know, kinda long but I had to get all the details in there. Now the race: they line up, its a Pro-Tree.......my friend absolutely kills this guy, which we knew was coming anyway. Unfortunately, he ran a 10.20, just 0.01 shy of his PB. But, here comes the punchline.........

the Camaro ran 11.94! Thats a 14.XX at a 1/4 track. Yet Mustangs are overrated Learn to drive your own car before you run your mouth about somebody elses. There were bolt-on GT's running mid/low 11's too.

FWIW, pretty much every other F-body/Vette/GTO owner out there was very cool. Speaking of GTO's, if you have a chance to look into the engine bay of an LS2 goat, do it. It will piss you right off. The engine bay is so clean and there is so much room to work. Installing LT's on one of those cant take more than an hour or two.

Yea, I love it when people talk sh1t, and then get owned at the track. At first when I read this thread title I was thinking "Helty would NEVER say that about a Mustang!"

Anyway, I'm glad you had fun at the track. I'll be going next saturday. I havn't been in a year so I'm excited!!!

I'm not sure there would have been a race if someone had closed my hood. That guy may have had good intenstion but I would have taken it the wrong way. And I'm a pretty laid back guy.

reminds me of when i put the supercharger on my car. i had a LS1 Firebird owner ask me about my car. when i told him we just put a supercharger on it, he said "now you can keep up with me". um, yeah. there was no keeping up. he was several car lengths behind and only falling back more.

i've got nothing against any car, but damn is it nice to stick it to the cocky douchebags who think they are the end all be all of motorsports.

I second that. You don't touch someone elses car without asking.

Yes, it was quite a good time last night. Wish I could have ran my car (limp **** fuel pump) and shut him up too. Then again, it has a supercharger so it wouldnt be fair. I suppose the Mach 1 running low 11's would have too many valves and cams too

There were some nasty Bow-Ties out though. A C5 Vert with a 408 running 8.6's (remember, 1000' track), and a twin-turbo SS running mid 8's as well if I recall correctly. Both of them were very cool.

LOL, we also saw what looked like a 94-98 6-banger stanger in pretty bad shape. Didnt think much of it until we saw it being loaded onto the trailer at the end of the night. Walked over and saw the IC tank in the passenger seat and a 106mm Turbo sitting right where the running pony would be in the grille!

Last time I was at the track there was a new GTO running a twin turbo setup! The thing was laying down 10.20s and the track prep was absolutely horrible.

As for your buddies race, I'm glad he killed 'em. I haven't met and LS1 owner that doesn't have a superiority complex.

yea, i hate the lame excuses. either your car is faster or not....who cares what the f it has done to it. thats the point isnt it? to mod them up to be faster!!!!! yea it has a blower that you decided to spend your money on, which makes your car more expensive and faster

i dont know about you but i think "more expensive" and "faster" picks up more chicks than stupid excuses.

No, my focus pump is limp after 5000 rpms so Ive got a nasty lean spike while Im still making power. Got a Cobra Tank/Pumps pretty cheap but the Fuel Level Sender is broken, and its $90 for that little thing

I'll get around to fixing it sooner or later. I miss running it, but in this heat it would have felt like I was beating on the car (non-intercooled), and I wouldnt have sniffed my PB.

hahaha that story reminds me of a supra talking trash at our track. saying mustangs are a joke and he had a crap load of mods on his car bigger turbo and all. well he got his chance to race a 2.1 KB GT no other mods to the stang except that supercharger and bfg drag radials. mustang ran a 7.6 at 92 to the supras 7.8 at 90. he was damn lucky they werent racing on a pro tree or it would have been game over for the supra his reaction time was around 2-3 seconds trying to spool his turbo lol.

Im suprised it was even that close...

supras= highway racers

actually...ive seen many videso of them that were set up for drag racing..but were most likely auto with a large stall so they could actually take off out of the hole.

well he only did that good because it wasnt pro tree. so in a street race he would have been done waiting for the turbo to spool. hell i think the mustang was turning around at the end before the supra crossed the finish line lol.
