My $2000 Ignition - I need help!

wahoo23
Tonight, I connected the red MSD wire to the I terminal of the solenoid. The red MSD wire is also connected to the ACC post of the ignition switch. It now fires right up. I'm a little confused why this would work - shoudn't the coil be getting power in the start position with the ACC connection?

You should probably move the Ignition switch connection from the ACC post back to to the Red/Blue Coil "C" wire.

If you have the key turned to the "ACC" position, for instance to sit and listen to the radio, the MSD box is also powered and will drain the battery faster.

Just to clarify, I think he means red with green stripe wire. Already enough confusion in the thread :D

Tim, thanks, that was probably one of my poorer ideas. It was easiest...fastest. But should not have been a permenent fix.

Oh, wahoo, in my post at the end where I said ...won't get the coil hot enough, I was refering to the coil in the electric choke housing.... yes, too much confusion already-most from me. Thanks for your patience.

Thanks to all for your help getting me through these issues. All that's left is to dial in the timing... One final question, somewhat unrelated - the MSD "chirps" - is that normal, or an indication that something is not quite right? Car runs ok, hesitates somewhat when you punch it, but otherwise is ok.

I have a digital 6 msd box and I don't think I've ever heard mine chirp... What do you mean by chirp ?

Have you ever tested the spark at the coil by disconnecting the lead from box to dizzy, laying the wire from coil to dizzy on a ground, and shorting out the purple and green wires of the lead from the box? The coil chirps. It does that constantly, but not regularly. By regularly, I mean in a pattern. Maybe I'll try to get a sound clip this weekend...
