Alright guys i found a heck of a deal on a 1967 Mustang coupe about two hours from me. Monday I pick it up. Well anyways it's black with a black vinyl roof and perfect black interior. It's got cragar wheels and decent tires. The engine has 75 miles on a rebuilt 289 with stock heads but it has an Edelbrock performer intake, holley 4 barrel, mild cam, dual exhuast and upgraded electronic ignition. no rust or anything. The guy has to get rid of it and I am gaining from his loss. One last question, with these mods (stock gears, convertor and weight) what should this car run in the 1/4?

Anywhere from 17 to 15 seconds, depending on gearing, driver etc.

Basically he told you. Depends on if your driving skills are inept, and depends on what rear end gears you have.

An auto, 2.80 gears and a non-worn out engine should be hitting 16s.
"small cam" could see 15s

With overdrive, I'd run 3.50 to 3.73s.
Without overdrive, its going to depend on how much freeway driving you do.
In AZ we're going 75 mph all the time, that's a lot for anything more than 3.00 gears without overdrive IMO.

no overdrive here, but it's more of just a cruisin car. see the reason i was askin about the steeper gears. alot of guys with 5.0s and c4's run 3.73. so i thought i could run 3.55 and get away with it

Like I said, it totally depends on your area.

Tri-y headers arn't bad on stock and mild motors, one might say they are worth the ca$h.

this may sound like a total newbie question but i'm used to doing exhaust with stuff already made up. with tri-y headers you bolt the collector the headers, but then do you cut the existing exhaust to slip onto the collector? sorry if i sound comletely stupid right now, i'm new to the classic mustang arena.
