Alright. Figured I'd start a thread to show the progress of my 1967 coupe build.

Recent purchase with very little drive time due to complete failure of the brakes.

Details:
Engine:

Reman Roller 302 HO from a 90's truck. 75a Powermaster alt. FiTech Go fuel injection. Long tubes, and 3 core aluminum radiator.
Only know issue is it aledgedly has a stumble at high RPM when Hot. Previous owner beleived it was the signal wire to the coil getting interference from the plug wires. I've lengthened and rerouted the wire for now. P.O. beleives the best fix is to add a msd box. It's on the list for now.

Trans- 4 speed top loader. Seems to shift fine. Got hung up a little when I first got it off the trailer but nothing since. It's touchy at real low speeds. Need more time with it to say for sure.

Brakes** 4 wheel manual drums. They were pretty soft when I test drove it, I assumed it needed bled, but found the Master cylinder to be full of rust and nearly no sign of fluid in it. The car was driven to a cruise and in a funeral perssesion the day before i got it "saw the videos myself." Brakes are getting over hauled.

Interior. It's black clothe. Factory was red. The seats and dash inserts seam to be from a 68. I'll probably redo most of the inside. It does have the roof console and I think that is cool.

Body. Factory was white. It was repainted 20 years or so ago and looks great from 10 feet back.. Best I can tell, all body panels are factory minus maybe the hood. It'll get some rust repair at some point.

Pics below to show the car and the brakes.

Yeah...those brakes are pretty nasty im sure. This car looks better than the other one you were looking at...just needs a little somethin somethin. I like it!
Took the kids swimming so I didn’t get much done, but I pulled the lines down to the distribution block, there was clean fluid at the block. So I’m hopeful but we will see.

Alright.. as my old boss used to say, "how do you eat an elephant? one bite at a time."

Pulled the hard lines down to the distribution block. the line to the front had clean fluid in it, the rears were empty.

Trying out purple power to clean things up. The only hardlines are soaking and seem to be doing the job. They'll get inspected tomorrow but i'm probably gonna replace them.

New master cylinder is in, it looks good. Unsure How I feel about the chrome lid but that's a detail for another day. The master cylinder got 2 coats of matt clear so it'll stay looking new.

The hardware for the Master is soaking in purple power and threads are getting chased with tap/die

lastly, the firewall where the master mounts got got a detailed scrub down and wire wheel. Only surface rust, so pretty happy there. hit it with rust converter, primer, paint and letting it dry. The threads will get chased tomorrow.

Hopping to pop the wheels and drums off tomorrow.

Gotta love buying a car to cruise and it end up on jack stands less than a month in.

Alright, the plan was to redo the front brakes and post some nice pics of everything cleaned up and ready to go.... but things don't always go as planned.

I'll save everyone the boring details and say i took a short trip to see someone local who got me on the right track. Will post more soon.

Alright. A few details.

Pulled the front drums and both cylinders were full of water and I’m guessing were 20+ years old. I don’t believe they were functioning at all.

The rears however seemed to have been serviced in the last few years and showed signs of new hardware and have clean fluid in them. I’m guessing they were the only thing stopping the car. Parking brake lever and links were missing.

Brake lines are the originals. Drivers side flair nut was totally stripped. Ordered a new set.

The parts I got from chock bolted right up without issue. The brake job is on hold while I wait for parts.

Edit. To clarify , I decided to ditch the front drums and replace with a bolt on kit from chock

Just curious, you speak of front drums but show a pic of a disc brake?
The rubber hoses, from the steel lines to the cylinder/caliper can collapse from the inside.. Good idea to replace..
The rubber line on the rear brake system, from steel line to the "splitter" on the rear end housing, will do this also....

I had a 67' Coupe back in the day.
Same basic paint scheme.
Blue with just the turn signal insets in the hood and the "vents" just behind the doors painted silver.
Silver vinyl seats with black velour inserts. Same treatment on the doors/dash. Black carpet.
Entire engine compartment and undercarriage/wheel wells was painted silver.
Hey, it was the late 70's...it looked good at the time. Lol.

Just the rears were working? No wonder you were questioning adding power brakes!
Yup.

sorry. Should have been more clear. After seeing the condition of things, I decided I would upgrade instead of strictly repair.

I spent alot of money on the front brakes of a dodge I had... They were 11 X 3" front drums that had come with the car and I " remembered" how front drums work fine back in the day.... Wrong... It was big mistake not converting to disc..
Your doing good.....

Things are going slow but they are going. Each time I find something broken or missing I’m put back a week waiting for it.

The front discs are completely installed

the rear drums are now rebuilt now with the once missing parking brake components.

the rear parking brake cables are installed .

front parking brake cable is attached to the car waiting for the handle to go back in.

all that is left is the parking brake handle , then attaching the 3 cables

bleed the master , bleed the system and test.

Side note. I’ve not worked on drum brakes in maybe 15 years. It’s not any more fun now than it was then.

Everything is now installed. Getting the parking brake cables in place was a blast.

Started the bleeding process . Fronts took fluid quickly without issue, couldn’t get fluid to the rears. Gonna try again tomorrow with a helper.

Hoping it’s just an air bubble and not a clogged or collapsing line.

This car is the gift that just keeps giving.

Rear soft like was clogged and rear hardline broke off while trying to remove it.

I’m so excited

Today was a good day!

Brake system is 100% together and works.

Had to bleed the system like 4 times but she stops great!

Got about 30 min of drive time . Found and fixed a vacuum leak, and found 2 squeaks. The leaf springs are squeaky , and the little tab that that holds your insurance card makes noise if nothing is behind it.

Time to get some miles on it and start shaking things out.

Been fighting an rmp noise issue with the fitech. Found a used Msd box for $50 on the marketplace. Installed that, grounded the throttle body to the block and added a ferrite filter . Rpm noise issue seems to be gone. Guess I’ll have to drive it more :)
