My A/C is popping?

My car is less than two weeks old. I usually drive with my windows down and the A/C on. So this morning I'm heading to work and I notice a weird poppin sound. Every 15-20 seconds or so, pop! So I turn off my A/C and the popping goes away. Turn it back on and pop!

I don't remember this happening before this morning. Any ideas?

all fords do it. i only ever noticed it at a rest, not while driving. it happens for a brief second, who cares. the a/c in the new stangs are really cold! lol thats what matters.

Maybe the new Fords do, but my 98 contour and my girlfriends 2002 Escape don't do it.

My A/C could be colder......it really struggles to keep up on hot summer days, especially with my black interior.

the contour and that escape most certainly have compressor clutches they use a different compressor then the new mustang with quieter clutch operation. as far as your a/c struggling try completely venting all the hot air out of your car prior to going for a drive and then running it full blast on recirc. you gotta get air over that condenser for the a/c to blow optimum. so if your at a stop or only driving around town its not gonna blow as cold. check the intake into the blower motor, is it obstructed by leaves and other debri? if it is your not gonna have air go through the registers as hard which will make it feel like your a/c isnt as cold as it should be. lastly you might be low on refrigerant.

My A/C is decent, but I get hot easily and really don't think car manufacturers do a great job designing for "worst case" scenarios. Luckily, I can get some air moving where I live, but what if you live in Atlanta or Houston and have to sit in traffic in 110 degree heat all summer long? The A/C should be sized to handle that condition, IMO.

And I guess i should have been clearer about the Contour and Escape...I know they have cluthes, but was just making the point that their operation is much quieter.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I noticed my clutch cycles and makes the same annoying noise with the defrost on, even if I have the A/C turned off. Why is this?? If the compressor isn't being called for, why would my clutch engange and dis-engage?

the defrost setting uses the A/C to remove moisture from the interior.
