Shift fork was broke... that was the tranny problem. And the starter shattered and messed up my clutch and flywheel. Tranny seems to be in good order, i just can't downshift into first from like 10 miles an hour, are 89 T-5's diff from 85's? I heard they had a lower first gear. I guess 1'st is only a take off gear.

First, that's not normal, the trans hasen't been repaired. Or maybe you have a dragging clutch disk. tight pilot bearing , ....

Second, time to learn how to double clutch. Nothing wrong with my transmissions and I still do it.

What he means to be not normal is the trans not being able to down shift into first gear at 10 mph.

Sounds like a bad synchro ring on 1st gear. Or as Wart said, could be the pilot bearing/bushing binding or a tight clutch.

Doubble clutching is normally used when you have a tranny with trashed synchro gears and you cannot get them to mesh properly. For example, going from 1st gear to 2nd gear you depress the clutch and start moving into second gear. Just as you feel the detent going 'to' second gear(more or less in the neutral position) you partially release the clutch which spins the idler shaft and changes the tooth alignment to "supposedly" help with gear alignment, which does work if your synchros are fried. Depress the clutch all the way again and grab 2nd gear fully and usually it goes with out trouble.

Get the movie "Bullet" with Steve McQueen driving his '68 Fastback in a chase with a '68 Charger. He doubble clutches the crap outta that stang through the whole chase. It'll give you a bit of an idea from a sound point to know what we're talking about.

Only time I've double clutched on an upshift is when I've missed a gear.

Double clutching is taking the trans out of the higher gear into neutral, letting the clutch out and revving the engine, then proceding to put the trans into a lower gear.

What the neutral rev does is increases the lower gears speed* closer to the speed of the collar thats going to be slid into/ over it so the syncros are less stressed. Someone who is real good can match velocities and the syncros do little to nothing.

*Speed, velocity, RPMs, take your pick of term that works for you.

I use to shift gears up and down with my old mans 74 toyota corrolla with out even using the clutch
--just match speeds and she slid right in ...plus it gives you something to do when you're young and stupid.

Oh okay, I know what you guys mean, I do it sometimes, I just didn't know what it was called. By the way, the rest of the tranny sucks too, I can't shift into second after about 2500 rpm's, meaning that nice little cam I have right now is pretty much useless!! Grr no track for me for awhile.

On a side note;

Double clutching is necessary when driving a truck, especially in the old 1960's REOs I used to drive with the dual transmissions and a million gears. (48mph flatout on level ground)

Haha they were good before I had them do any transmission work, I'm not taking it back again I am gettin really pissed. The tranny is still ****ty. Today first gear popped out as I went to go from a light, I'm going to go die now... This is making me hate my car, I must fight the feeling...it's the trannies fault not the II's!

Like a Bad kidney.... NICE~

I still think your problems are in your synchros. You're having all the symptoms that I had when i trashed a RAD trans. Either that or I'm wontering if Billy Bob (your Mech) even put your synchro drum assembly back together correctly. If it's popping out of gear, your detents may not be spring loaded correctly (or at all!) and this could be the source of the other problems aswell. Better take the trans to a tranny shop and have someone who IS familiar with the T-5 take a look at it.
