I have a 96 GT with a P-600 on it, forged internals, P&P heads, and all the usual bolt ons. I had it dyno tuned this past summer by Springfield Motorsports in Northern Va. They did a great job and fixed everything wrong with my car, but about a month after bringing it back home it started spitting and sputtering off and on. I thought it was bad gas, so I put treatment in it and it seemed to help. And when it started acting up, it would only seem to do it when it was low on gas and when i hit a bump. But then it would go away. Well i got home from school for break and it started doing it again, so i changed the fuel pump and cleaned out the tank, but that did not help. So now i dont know what the heck to do. I dont know if there is something wrong with the tuning or what, but it does not do it all the time, and when it does it, it will cut off and just die, but will start back up fine. The car was tuned with the stock mass air and 24lb injectors. I could just take it back to Springfield, but it is 2 hours away and I dont really have the money to get them to work on it. So could it be an electrical problem like and short since it happens when i hit a bump (but sometomes it just starts doing it out of nowhere), could it be the tuning, the mass air, etc?. I am really fed up with it, Ive had nothing but problems with this car. So has anyone had any problems with this or know what i could check??????? I would really appreciate your help....
Thanks in advance.

did u have a chip installed?? if so, might of come loose. i put a chip in our old f150 to change the shift patterns, and i scrapped all the sealant off the computer board, and still didnt work. i had to take something similar to a grill brush to get the crap off. just an idea is all.

Yeah I have a superchips chip and everything looks good, nothing seems to be loose. I had the fuel filter changed as well. I dont know what the hell is going on. It hasnt acted up all day today, finding this problem when it doesnt happen all the time is a pain...

Thanks

Sorry to hear that you are having these problems. Maybe the mass air is bad??? Check your injectors too, that isn't hard. I don't think it would be your wiring hirness so i don't think it would be a short. If all that doesn't work maybe your computer is messed up. I honestly think it would be the computer if its not the mass air.

Thanks for the info. I have not not done the mass air mod, and I really dont want to mess with it since it was tuned where it is. But i will check and clean the connector and mass air and see if that helps. I called springfield and they said to bring the car to them, but it did not act up all day today, so Id hate to take the car to them and they couldnt find the problem. Do you think it could have been water or air in the fuel lines and even though it acted up after I put the new pump in, it could have burned everything out now. just a thought. But if it does act up again, i think it could be the computer also

Thanks for the help everyone

Did you check ground wires that may have a bad connection? This will make your car do some strange things like you are describing, good luck.

My car acts stupid in the rain, when its foggy, or when its really humid. I can guess why it does it but i don't bother its not like i want to drive fast then. I just look at it like this, my car is telling me to chill out in those conditions.

Does your car run fine on nice days?

When you say stupid, do you mean it stutters/hesitates?

Well im assuming my car is fixed, it has not acted up since the day I put the new pump in and cleaned the water out of the gas tank out. It did act up right after the pump was put in, but evidently there was still some moisture in the lines and it cleaned itself out. So finally it is running right and strong.....Thanks everyone for your help...

Clue here? I heard with some blowers, never let your tank get below 1/4? Or am I blowing smoke?

it seems like you are the only one that did not miss the fact it happens when low on gas

try this fill up the tank and drive around but dont let the tank go under half for a week
then the next week let it go under 1/2 down to about 1/8 if it stops with a full tank and comes back when you run the tank lower its cause your pump is sucking the bucket dry causing a lean condtion

glad to hear it's fixed :nice: cause there is nothing more annoying than your car not running right & you can't quite fix it :nonono:
