Mine had it, but it was 1988, and the bolts to remove it were still clean. So was the silencer. Replaced it with a Kenne-Bell ram air setup that was the first on my block, under the bumper, fiberglass scoop, dryer duct hose, 1200 cfm conical filter enclosed in a fiberglass canister, fed right into the intake-all the other kids in the sandbox didn't know what what it was. Great, cheap ram-air system, easy install. Car Review magazine said I should. $129.00, it was good money spent, lots more top end.

My 88 had that, dizzy boot, original exhaust and was rust free when I got it in 05

My 89 SSP is all stock besides the oil/plugs/plug wires. Air silencer still in place along with everything else. I plan on taking my silencer out this weekend because I am replacing the passenger fender.

Oh man.... What a great thread! I'm rolling from the "noisemaker" and "original oil" posts... That would be awesome to see in an ebay car, "all original - even the oil"

My buddy Mario picked up an 88 GT, red/red interior, off ebay last summer, 1,600 miles on it. Yes, 1,600 miles. Guy in Indiana had it in a pole barn- I think $12,000. Original down to the VR's- but he has since changed the oil. Mario's a fanatic.

I have one. I was on ebay a year or so ago, and decided to search "mustang" within 200 miles of my place. I spelled mustang wrong, and types "mustagn" and one auction came up. It was for a "stock mustagn air intake" It was everything from the air silencer, airbox, tubing, mass air meter, tubing to the TB, and also the nuts and bolts in between there. All this was from a 50K 90 GT. I got it for less than $20 to my door! I still have it all in a box on the shelf.

So after reading this thread, I went out and looked at my newly acquired 88 vert and sure enough, the silencer is still in there. Guess I need to get it out of there now.

My '86 GT 'vert had the silencer in place, as well. I kept forgetting it was in there, though, so I never bothered to take it out.

This piece of tubular plastic is found behind your air filter, in your fender. Its supposed to keep the air flowing into your injected 5.0 quiet, so you can hear your Premium Sound Casette tape stereo, or the other people in your Mustang. But it flows air, well, like if you tried to breathe through a straw all day. Combine it with your factory dual catalytic converter system, sorta like blowing through a pillow, and you have one big asthmatic party.
