It was idling in my driveway when all of the sudden i saw smoke coming up from the hood and fire from underneath  :fuss: It scared the crap out of me, but luckly i had a fire extinguisher and got it out before it caused any damage.

The p/s hose melted and spewed fluid on the exhaust manifold :notnice:
Any tips or tricks to keep this from happening again, i thought i had the hoses routed away good enough, but i guess not :bang:

Bummer...
I keep an eye on mine whenever I go for a drive.
I've got a 351W in my '67 with the stock power steering lines and stock exhaust manifolds. For now, I use zip-ties to keep the hoses at least 1/4" away the manifolds. Thinking about the Flaming River setup, if it REALLY feels like power steering.

kind of scarey. my old lines were really leaky, but luckily all they did was smoke.

they were zip tied and pulled away from the exhaust, but I wouldnt trust zip ties forever...

I have not seen a way to pull them away from the exhaust without looking like poo.

At this point im not worried about it looking like poo, im more worried about it happening again :notnice:

What way where you refering to that didnt look good? I am curious.

Maybe I'm contagious. I just got mine back on the road after my wiring harness caught fire. I couldn't get the painless kit though, I had to buy a factory harness because the "ole lady" is wanting "the ring" pretty badly, so I have to penny pinch until I get that out of the way.

to me zip ties dont look all that good :D I guess they would only be seen if someone was actually looking for them. It goes along with the crappy welds underneath my battery tray. I am the only one who knows they are there, but it still drives me nuts to think about it.

to bad they do not make a braided line that was stiff enough to stay out of the way on its own.

Where do you guys keep your extinguishers? I was thinking about mounting mine between the front seats, on the hump. Do any of you mount them on the front A-Pillar? I would think that putting it in the trunk wouldnt be any good cause it would take extra time to get to it. Do you guys use foam ones too?

I think i remember 70stangcoupe saying something about a braided line that he used to replace his p/s lines when they were melted  I dont see why you couldnt just wrap some kind of heat shield around the lines that are close to the exhaust, like header wrap or something  Any ideas?

LOL  Mine is currently located behind the passenger seat :D Havent got around to mounting it yet. But when i do mount it, it will probably be between the seats on the hump, really there arent too many other spots for it because of its size  BTW it is just one that i picked up from Wally World.
