I finally got the balancer off, and the timing cover and timing chain have been removed. I'll have more pics up tomorrow. I'm gonna be buying new lifters, but re-using my rockers / pushrods. Do I still need to keep them organized, or can I just box them up?

You can just box them up, keep them oiled so they do not rust, then throughly clean them before re-installing. Get a pushrod cleaning brush, you would be surprised what gets in them.

If the crank is -.010 currently you can go -.020 but with the blower I would really be hesitant to do that. I have some factory cranks if you need one...

Cam bearings look OK

Upper thrust bearing looks fine, but the lower is completly gone. Also the upper rod bearings wer showing some copper, but not the lowers


Brown spot is a reflection

It looks like my old crank was already at .020, so it's finished. I've heard that using head studs on a stock block can distort the mains. Any truth to this?

ive never heard about that ^^

if u r going to put in new bearings, crank, cam etc. i would spend the little bit extra and get new cam bearings installed too, im sure theres a place that will loan u the bearing installer tool if u can do it yourself, i did mine in about 10 minutes total

Yeah, if I decided to rebuild this block it will get new cam bearings for sure. I'm not leaving anything to chance

So you got the motor with a .020" crank from them?

Never had a head stud issue on a stock block, for distortion.

No, I didn't buy a second one. I haven't bought anything yet, except an engine stand

It looks that way. When I pulled out the bearings they are marked u-020 on the bottom.
Any opinion on what may have caused this? Is it unusual to only have one have of the bearing worn and the other half be OK?

Hey Rick, when using a main support, does the block have to be line-honed with the support bolted in place prior to assembly? I installed mine after the fact. Could this have led to this problem?
