My horror story

heres my story of a 2001 gt getting a saleen blower installed:

took the car to BP Speed Center in Horsham, PA. quoted for install and tune for $1500, at the Injection Connection in Horsham, PA ** BP Speed Center never checked with the Injection Connection on the actual price they just kept saying $1700 and $1900, the numbers didnt seem to add up but i went with it**(formerly known as Berrell Auto Repair, located on Horsham Rd.). The kit wasnt complete and the missing parts came out to be $800. For four months talking with saleen trying to get parts. First saleen was to ship out an Expansion Tank kit that includes all hardware and tank to run the intercooler/ heat exchanger. After four months got all the pieces to put it together. Car was together and taken for a test drive, sucks the number 5 valve and bends. Valve job done on the cylinder and re-assembled. Dyno runs made at 12 degrees timing, shift points were at 6200rpm's and rev limiter removed. Got the car back after the Injection Connection had it since July 29th, 2008. Got the car back in early december to only have it for 5 hours, then the number 8 intake valve sucked into the cylinder, "kissing the piston" says the injection connection, haha ya right. Had another valve job done on the number 8 cylinder after the Injection Connection claims a piece of metal held open the valve and bent it (the piece of metal they showed me that "went through the head" wasnt even from my car!!) Had to pay $1100 twice for the valve jobs. And then december 23rd, 2008 I get the car back for this time 6 hours and sent a rod through the block.

After everything said and done, after the necessary extra parts needed i end up with a blown motor and on top of that the bill for the Injection Connection was about $7200 all said and done to this point.

YIKES!! The car was making only 320hp and 340tq. I personally know ppl pushing 425hp to the rubber and not having a problem, the Injection Connection claims the car had a lot of miles (75,000)<-- not really that many but w/e. This blow out should not have happened

So now im out $7200 and a motor and they wont do anything to help me out, they the whole time of the job were being shady about parts and fixing things that i did NOT authorize ie: the alternator. Wouldn't give me a price on their work until after the work was done because they didnt want to add up the hours on the car so i saw the bill and i almost died, im 19 years old and not made of money here.

Ive talked to Second Street Speed Shop in Perkasie, PA and the shop owner bill told me hes seen errors come out of theur shop numberous times that he himself has fixed before, but nothing like this.

Sounds like they took advantage of you. Stuff like that has happened to my friends before, thats why i prefer doing my own work and if i can't i'll only go to the best shop i can. Sorry about the car man that sucks balls.

it happens, now the problem is i have to decide to put in a cobra engine and trans, or stick with the 2v. im not looking for the badest ride on the planet just something to cruise in style in you know. i already have the 2v shortblock with forged internals and .030 over. but im leaning towards the cobra swap. any comments?? or words of wisedom??

I thought you weren't made of money. Cobra swaps are for people made of money. Take your losses, throw in a junk yard 2v, sell the car, and buy a Cobra. This car is cursed. And learn to do your own work. Its not hard to install a supercharger or fuel pump or anything. Especially Saleen stuff.

Odd to be having any PTV issues with stock cams - or without someone playing with your timing chain. Regardless - with a saleen SC kit, which is basiacally a bolt on manifold, pulleys, some vacuum lines, etc - I would have self installed and have it flatbed towed to a tuning shop to dyno tune it and get it running safely. Sorry you got hosed man. It has happened to all of us at least once.

They probably left crap in the lower intake.....bunch of retards!

My old GT put down 550RWHP on the stock motor....had over 70,000 miles on it. Those guys are a joke.
Can you take it to modularpowehouse in GA? Those guys are great. I would also threaten to sue these guys....see if they will knock some money off the bill. Blower has nothing to do with dropping valves....thats their fault for faulty install.
Dont pay for ANY of that work! Shortblock is harder to pin on them.

Yo dude i know all about them guys. I lived in Hatboro for about 15 years. I live in chester county now. Do you your self a favor bring you car out here to Johnny Lightning Performance. It is a bout a hour 1/2 from you. That is were i bring my saleen to get all my tuning done. Johnny is a strait up guy and dose great work with very reasonable prices. you will not be disappointed.

Horror stories like this one makes me angry. I can't believe that this place can do crappy work like this and still be in business. I would discuss your problem with a lawyer. You aren't responsible for this. Hope you get everything worked out. Pearl02.

I dont know where you r at in Pa. but try McNews automotive in Dillsburgh Pa. They are the best Mustang shop in Pa. hands down. They are top notch guys to....very trust worthy!!! Pm me if you want there phone#. You cant go wrong with these guys.

Ok, now that everyone has explained how to repair your stang however, you must prevent this from occuring again at this shop.

1. Call the Better Business Burea, explain your situation and ask for help. Also call the local chambers of commerces to report poor business practice.

2. Call the state attoney general office or look online (google) for that website to process a complaint.

3. Call your local news station or email for consumer affairs/advocacy and ask for help.

4. Call the owner of that shop and request for a solution to fix this situation to prevent an escalation. Explain that you are will to take this to court if necessary. He/she will deny any wrong doing.

5. Keep your cool and remember that you are trying to reduce the risk of another stanger going into that shop and being butchered. Stay with it!

6. Request to have the name and location of that shop posted on a stickey on this site. "Shops To Avoid" and reference link to your tread.

Ride Hard Mustang!!
