my intake cracked...

Hi guys, this is my first time posting on the forum but i have been following the forum since 2004. anyways i have a 1999 mustang gt bone stock she has 74000 miles on her for some stupid reason the intake manifold decide to break now. i called a ford dealer in pensacola they told me that they can't fix it under the extended warranty and they want to charge me $1100 for part and labor to fix it. i said the hell with ford, i am thinking to fix it by myself. can any of you provide me with some info and picture on how to install it yourself. thanks guys for your help.

Depending on what you want to do, there are a few ways to go about it. You could get a "Ford" OEM replacement part (pretty expensive) or get one made by a company called "Dorman". They are like 150 bucks and IMO they are basically the same. A friend of mine got one from Carquest...

As for a write up, I'm sure someone will have a link. This is a common issue for us round here.

If you are not confident in your mechanical skills just pay a professional to do it man. It does'nt have to be a Ford dealership, you could find a qualified mechanic to do it for much cheaper than what they will charge. But in all honesty there is not much to doing it yourself, just make sure that you are ready to do it before you start. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Very true. Would be worth the extra money that you will probally spend later on done the road anyways.

thanks for the help guys, i will buy the part from ebay and call a local mechanic shop and see how much they quote me on monday. as far as doing it myself i am still thinking about it and i know you guys will provide me with some good info.

it's a pretty simple swap if you've done any kind of mechanical stuff before...it's not a ton more involved than swapping spark plugs...

I think you can get them from Americanmuscle too...I'd avoid generic ones from some misc. auto parts store or ebay

you may need to get a new alternator bracket...I'm pretty sure someone offers a "kit" but I don't remember who

My car whistle around 2000rpm and up , I might have cracked manifold ? How can I make sure and check ? I have change alternator, iac valve, pcv valve, intake gasket, egr gasket, idler pulley and belt tensinor but with no luck

You can leave out changing the heater tubes and etc. Since you are already PI you won't need to swap anything but the intake.

This is true. When I did my swap (after the original cracked), it was really simple. Some tips I'd give would be:

Get ziploc bags and put 'sets' of bolts, etc and label em. It keeps stuff neat and well, labled. The best thing I did was took lots of digital pictures along the way so that if I forgot where certain things went, I could refer to the pics. Take your time! Remember to rock the never-seez on the bolts, torque them right, etc. One way to help you take your time is to think about the fact that it will take so much longer to re-do it if you screw it up. But it's not difficult at all.

Oh, and the way I kept it as "fun" as possible was by cleaning everything as I went since you gotta take it off. I cleaned my injectors really well and that type stuff .. Great time to change the plugs too.

Hmmmm, mine whistles a bit too, but only when slightly accelerating. I just put a new plenum and TB on too and was thinking it may be the TB...but now im thinking maybe i tightened the screws too much and cracked the manifold? Think that this is the case?

No, I'm pretty sure you have the non-plastic crossover. Look at the thermostat neck and see if it's plastic. The new "updated" intake manifolds aren't plastic. That is were most of them break. You would see coolant everywhere. Don't worry about the whistle sound if your car runs good. You'll end up doing more bad than good if you keep swapping out parts.

Some people get a whistling sound after plenum/TB installs. It's normal, as long as your idle is fine, and the car runs good. I wouldn't worry about it .

I thought my tb/plenum making this whistle noise too but even I put in stock tb/plenum it still whistle. I do have non-plastic crossove, it's aluminum.

I know my clutch is almost out so do you guys this if my clutch whistling like pilot baring or throw out barings ?

TOB's make more of a chirping sound than anything. Your intake is fine, you have the aluminum crossover. How does the car idle? Sometimes vacuum leaks can cause whistling sounds, in which case your car would idle higher than 800-1000 RPMs.

Car idle fine, some time goes on shakey cause of cams I just spray some carb cleaner on intake , gasket and everything but rpm didn't go up so I now know that my intake is not cracked.

Do a search for intake swap and see if the write-up's are something you want to tackle. Pretty straight forward swap really. You are about 6 hours from me if you need some help.

Yea, im on the same page as you now because mine just craced tonight. Trying to figure out if Ford will re-imbruse me even if I replace it with a Trickflow lower instead of the sotck Ford one again. Anyone know?
