My light's don't work?

Ok today i tried turning on my light's and they wouldn't turn on. Checked the fuses and there good i replaced one that was bad but didn't affect the lights. My tail light's work and the sidelamps but they don't turn on. I checked the bulbs and there good. Just posted maybe this happened to someone else.

maybe check your grounds for your lights that are on top of the radiator support

im confused by your initial post. which lights work exactly? tail lamps, i take it. dont know about the part with the marker lights.

you can pop the headlight switch out and check values. ditto for accessing the multi function switch (if headlights/TS's are an issue). do your instrument lights work?

Yeah my instrument lights work, my marker lights work, my taillights work all the lights except the headlights. It's weird idk it looks like theswitch to turn the lights on is loose.

yeah.. take out the switch and make sure the wires are in there nice and tight.. Then take out the hazard switch and make sure there in good..

I had the same problem with mine as in all the lights worked except the head lights. Everynow and then i could get them to come back on my messin with the switch and the turn singal switch. Ended up being my Multifuction Switch. Had that changed and really haven't had a problem since.

I think this still applies to an 89, but it is from my 79 -82 experience.

The headlight circuit has a circuit breaker instead of a fuse. On my 79 it is part of the headlight switch, that mounts in the dash. When mine failed, the lights would work, blink off for a few seconds, then come back on. If you have the pull switch in the dash, just replace it. I am not sure on 89, but I think you have that setup. Next up is the high/low beam switch, which is part of the turn signal switch. However, a failure there usually only looses high or low.

There should also be a fusable link in the headlight power wiring somewhere in the main wiring harness near the battery, which is the last resort. Look at the wires from the starter relay (solenoid) on the fender. If you see a burned lump in the wire that may be it. You may want to get a wiring diagram to make it faster to trace.

Last, it sounds real weird, but, I have had both headlight bulbs fail at one time. (77 F150) Changed them it it was fine again.

there are little tabs on the side of the switch. you can use a small screwdriver to push the tabs and pop the switch out.

MF switch = turn signal switch assembly. the headlight switch sends juice through the MF switch when the headlight position is selected. the MF switch controls whether power for low or high beams passes through.

i would pull the plastic column shroud off and examine the wires and connectors. if you have a GT with fogs, the fogs often times overload the circuit. make sure wires are not burned and that the wires are all plugged in all the way (did not pop themselves out).

i recommend using a relay on fogs at a min. personally i run SPDT relays on all three (low, high, fogs). takes a lot of stress off the stock wiring and switches.

Do neither the high nor the low beams work? Use your MF switch to check the "flash to pass" high beam control and the standard high beam position in addition to your standard low beam position. If it works in any of these positions, please post.

If everything works except the headlights but the flash to pass still works, it's your multifunction switch

If the headlights go off and on while driving it's the actual head light switch on the left hand side of the dash.

Common problems and I have had both. With multifunction switches, make sure you get the one for your car. 90-93 are different then 87-89. Autozone has them for the same price by the way.

Thanks ponyboy, the flash-to-pass is the only thing working on mine- guess I'll be buying a multi-function switch! 50RESTO wants $90 for one, my local O'Reilly's sells it for $50! Anyone know anywhere it's cheaper? And is 50RESTO always that high for parts?!?

P.S.- What do ya know, SEARCH works!

50resto is actually pretty well priced, they were the same as autozone on the flash to pass on my 92 and the dealer wanted 120 for it. Just a word of caution, becarefull of the 50 dollar switch. I too was quoted that price from Advanced auto, I knew it couldn't be correct and after a bit more digging it was indead a 94-98 switch. they are year specific and won't interchange and work correctly. Just playing devils advacate here, but I did a bunch of searching and all the autoparts stores here were in the 90 dollar range for the correct one so I would question the 50 dollar quote very hard and see it with my own eyes. If it is indead the correct part, then good find, that's the cheapest I've seen them.

I bet you need a new mutlifunction switch, mine burnt out and I had the same exact problem

I'm assuming your talking to me and seen the website?

way to much... when it's all said and done, blower on, tuned and bugs worked out, I'll have enough into it to see FIRE in my wife's eyes when it's mentioned. : It's pretty much a no expense spared set up that I'm working on over time as cash becomes avaliable .

Drivetrain consists of a D&D prepped Viper T56 6sd, fabbed to a steel sfi bell, Mcleod Twin street dual disc clutch, billit flywheel, and I am going to put a set of 33 spline axles with a spool out back.
