I've got a 1995 GT convertible, 5.0, AODE, 51,000 miles, and the o/d on-off button will not work in the morning when it is cold. I can't seem to get it to work at any time on the way to work (15 miles) in the morning.
When I come out for lunch and the car's been sitting in the sun, the button works perfectly, I can just press the button lightly and it will go in and out of overdrive.
It is definately temperature-related, I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced something like this and what you did to fix it.
Also, does your o/d button push in at all? Mine doesn't at all, I'm not sure if they are spring-loaded or not.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Will the car go into overdrive under normal driving cold or warm? Or are you just saying if you push the button it won't drop into 3rd? Does the light come on in the dash saying o/d off? Let me know..see ya.

Since the button should press down a little bit, it sounds like it the switch simply took a poo poo, and in cold weather, the temps affect the broken switch in a mechanical fashion.

FWIW, AFAIK, it is just a momentary switch. You should be able to use a momentary switch from the parts store for a little bit till you get the correct new switch.

I am pretty sure that when guys add another switch (to put it on the shifter handle, etc) that is all they do.

If you use the OD button a lot, have you seen the shifters with the holder for the OD button? The button is at the shifter handle, rather than the console. Seems kinda cool to me. UPR sells a version.
And while installing a new switch, that is a good time to do the retrofit.
Good luck.

Thanks for the replies, guys. Yeah, my trans shifts normally when cold, it's just that when I push the button the o/d off light does not light up on my dash, and the trans will shift normally and go into overdrive at about 42 mph.
When I am driving around town I would prefer to keep it out of overdrive, the rpms drop to about 1000 rpms and seem to lug the engine down too much.
When its warm, I just tap the button and the o/d off light comes on and the trans will stay in drive (3rd).
Hissin5.0, the info about putting the button on the shifter sounds interesting. I think I will go that route when I go to replace the faulty button.
Thanks again.

Some of the info here might help.

And UPR has a shifter that comes with the bracket they use (so you dont have to fab one up).

Good luck.

Mine stopped working one time after I spilled some coffee or something on the switch. I poured some water on it, pushed the button a bunch of times and wiped it with a paper towel to get the sticky stuff out of the switch. It started to work after that. Your switch could be gone but it might be worth a try.
