Well, I had some minor pinging at high RPMs before adding the bolt ons to my stang. A few days after putting on the Xpipe and magnapacks the pinging grew louder and began to happen at lower rpms, at take off, and just about anytime I gave the car some gas. Before long, grannying the tansmission didn't even work to avoid that loud embarassing sound - which only happened when I was accelerating.. leading me to believe it was the dreaded 'ping' everyone else describes. Sounded like a metal can full of marbles being shaken around. Same tone and rate no matter the rpm. So, after reading the forums and consulting a friend, I switched to Amoco 93 and cleaned the MAF. The high end pinging seemed to deminish and disappear, but the loud obnoxious pinging while accelerating continued.

I took it back to the shop that installed it. One tech told me the sound was normal rasping that often happens after installing an aftermarket exhaust. This was when the sound was still a hit and miss issue. Another tech there told me it was the dreaded pinging and I should get it looked at after taking a ride with me.

So, I then took it to Ford. After two hours, the service tech came to me and told me that they jacked it up, took a good look underneath and they were sure something came loose in one of the cats and was rattling around in it, then recommended I take it back to the shop that installed it and have them install a new set..

I took my car from Ford directly to the performance shop and updated them on the situation. They jacked it up, played with the pipes a bit to try and find where something might be loose in the pipes and discovered the bolt on one of the O2 sensors was loose, causing it to rattle around. They tightened it up. I test drove it for about 10 miles.

"Pinging" eliminated.

Looking back, it now makes sense why the problem didn't show up until the day after installation and then grew from minimal to major.
