Mysterious dash hole

There is a small round hole to the lower right of the radio in my dash. The hole is perfectly round and doesn't appear to have been made with a drill. It's about the size of a small button. I checked the back side and it's smooth and clean. The P/Os put some pretty nasty holes in the door panels, package tray, etc but this doesn't appear to be their "handy" work.

Has anyone seen a similiar hole? Any ideas what this thing is for?

Is it "under" the dash ? Any chance it's the emergency flasher hole ? Or one of them.

Larry, thanks for posting the pic. I'll try to take on of my dash on Saturday--the car is at the painters.

The hole is located below the fold to the right of the right radio post. The diameter is smaller than the radio post hole.

An emergency flasher hole is a good idea but it seems to be a in a wierd place.

It could have been something as simple as someone "trying" to put in another radio and then quitting. It could have been them hooking up something like a CB in a car from years gone by. That could have been them trying mount anything. I have never seen a stock hole in that location. Question for you is...are you going to fill it in ?

Yes, this is the most "butchered" part of the older Mustangs dash and could have been the start of putting in an eight track player.
