I have researched the topic of running AFM N-41 cam and 1.72 RR's and have never found a clear, definite answer. will there be piston / valve clearance problems with stock short block 302 and GT-40 heads running this combo?

You can run this cam with a stock bottom end and it works great with Gt40 heads but you will have to run 1.6 rockers and you will also need 3.73 or 4.10 gears so you can get it into it's power range quicker and if you have and aod trans you will need an high stall converter and a 75mm mass air meter so it will get the air it needs to idle good. For more info go to andersonfordmotorsport.com or call them. But i can tell you that the cam you are talking about requires 1.6 rockers.

The only one that can provide you with the correct answer is........ your setup after you measure for PtV. Assuming you degree the camshaft and based on the IO event of 1° BTDC @.050"..... intake valve has a good chance of clearing. On the exhaust side, with a EC valve event of 5° ATDC @.050", is the one to really pay special attention to. If it clears with 1.6 rockers, 90% of the time should clear with 1.72's.
