did everything today on my 95, when everything was ready to go, i hit the purge the the solenoids just to see if everything was working correctly and it seemed to be. Then a couple minutes later i see smoke coming out of the airvents in the hood and at first i though i had a leak and that it was nitrous coming out then i realized i had not even opened the bottle yet. so i popped the hood and there are all the nitrous wires red hot and up in smoke

i did this too :bang: . for me it turned out that on the arming switch, i switched the accessory wire and the power(12 v) wire so when i armed the system then flicked the full throttle switch the same thing happened.

on my arming switch, there are only 2 contacts, neither of which are labeled, so i just picked one contact to go to the wot switch and the other to go to the relay i think or maybe the power source i cant remember.

So the wires burned with JUST the purge or did you arm the system?

It's a long shot but check your wiring again and make sure that the switch is actually interrupting the circuit. I once installed a switch and got my wires mixed up and put the switch between the hot and ground. When I flipped the switch, I was actually grounding the circuit before the fuse and completely bypassing any powered accessories. Luckily it popped a high current fuse.

i armed the system to make sure all the noids worked before actually using it. just about all the wires except those actually leading to the arming switch and purge button burned up.

First off... put a fuse in the line. That's what will keep you from burning your car up. Second double check your power sources with a volt meter. Third, follow the burnt wires and see if maybe they just shorted together. There could have been a split in the insulation and the wires just shorted out together.

My alarm wiring in my S-10 shorted out over a couple of years of wear and tear... it happened right at the firewall. Filled my cab full of smoke in less than 5 seconds. It was a damn busy road too. Luckily I could pull off, and it lost power when I killed the key.
I was jumping into the fuse box for the power, but used the wrong side of the fuse by accident, so basically it was not fused.

Let us know what you find out.
