Hello everyone.

I have a question for you all. I am experiencing a really nasty squeeking sound coming from my motor. Im not very mechanically inclined so you cant really take my word for it but I think its coming from around the belt drive. When the car is idleing its louder then the exhaust. The sound was there when I bought the car but it was really faint. It seams to be getting louder and louder. And the pitch of the squeeking fluctuates with the amount of throttle I apply. Anyone know what this is? and how hard/expensive is it to fix?

Thanks

-Dustin 1995 Yellow GT

Try changing the belt. And welcome to the boards.

If you change the belt and it doesnt go away, I would check the idler pulley too. About 15 bucks or so from the local parts store.

Agree it's the belt. I just put on a belt that was an 1/2" to big and it sqeaked like a mofo. If your stock belt is stretching it can cause the same problem.

i'd try the belt first, but if that doesnt solve it, look to the distributor. mine was going out and making a really loud squeaking noise

Chances are it's the belt. But my idler pulley did something of this sort, I replaced it before it got too loud. If you go to a parts store and they only want to sell you the entire pulley bracket.. keep searching, you can find the Pulley by itself for about $15. I got mine at Savage Auto parts.
