My car came with the King Cobra and I LOVE it. It grabs hard and chirps loud.
I completely agree. However, I got a KC knowing I'm not going to push it over the limit and risk it being a weak link.

How would it be a weak link?
Clutches like that are not good in the rain. They also suck at low speeds, like through a parking lot or what have you, because when you let off of the clutch there is no slipping the clutch, you bark the tires wherever you go. My old 89 had a spec and I HATED it.

How would it be a weak link?
Well... the KC is recommended for cars with up to 400hp. You don't exact want a KC if you plan on going to 600hp. Unless you plan on changing out to a better clutch.

When you say "clutches like that" are you referring to the spec or the King Cobra or both?

I've never had my car dyno'd, but I would imagine that I'm probably at around 300hp. What do you guys think? With my mods would it be safe to say I'm at the 300hp mark?
I've heard that the king cobra does that too, but someone who's had one here could tell you. Of course if you're adding a butt load of horsepower then you will have to get a SPEC or King Cobra

spec clutches are lightswitches, aka, you need to be able to find the fine line of the clutch slipping which is hard to do, and even when it slips you have to have a good amount of revs built to keep it from shaking the car violently, and also if you do manage to get it to slip, it will just chatter really bad. ive driven cars with stage 5's stage 3's and 94gtho's new integra has a one or 2 in it. you have to be over 2k to have a chance of starting rolling smooth.
id just go with a KC if you dont mind having room to modulate it. the only thing nice about spec clutches are how fast you make shifts. the intergra i ride in and drive slams the front end down when it catches its so instant, and barks pretty healthy.

I've had no issues. I've had my KC installed in November and drive it daily.
ive got a spec stage 1 in mine, and now that its mentioned, it is rather on or off. i thought it was just me and my crappy driving. otherwise i rather like it, good pedal feel, and easy to shift kinda fast once its moving.

My old King Cobra held 405rwhp fine with my stock trans. Best clutch I ever had in the car. Than I went to a Centerforce lite series and had nothing but trouble. Now have a Pro-Motion Custom clutch and it's ok but no where near as good as my King Cobra was.
Get a King Cobra!!! Cheap, easy to drive, holds a buttload of hp, and soft pedal feel!
Seems stupid to spend more on a clutch that will just be harder to drive. I don't see a reason not to get one. I think their only like $170 now also!
