Well about an hour ago, a burning rubber smell started coming from under the hood and the little pic of the battery lit up on my console. What does this light mean, and any idea what would be burning/rubbing to make it go on? Since it's dark I havent really checked it out, but I'm gunna check it in the morning. I'm just in a panic about more stuff wrong with my car and since I don't have a manual, I'm kinda lost. Thanks for any help.
/end noob rant

i would guess it is either the serpentine belt or wiring burning.

in light, go check it out. things that burn, smell, which makes it easy to find them. just dont catch the car on fire.
good luck and welcome to the boards.

ok well I looked at it this morning, and I still really can't tell where it's coming from. The only other thing I've found out is the little pic of the battery that's lit up, if I rev the engine, it goes off but the smell is still there....

I'd check the alternator, as well as wiring around it and the battery. Even when you rev it the smell will still linger for a little while!

im not sure what you mean by this.

something i might try. pop the serpentine belt off and run it. this will confirm that the alt is the problem. once off, does the alt pulley spin well? at this point you could take the alt off and have it repeatedly bench tested.

my brain is not workin well, as usual, but this is probably the way i would attack the problem.

good luck.
