Need a new clutch

Hi, this is my first post here. I recently bought a pretty built 92 LX and love the car! anyway, when I bought the car a CF was installed and I think it was always slipping a little but after about 10 races the other night the clutch is slipping pretty bad. I dont know how a clutch can wear that fast  Anyway, i need a new one now and i'm not sure on what to buy. From what i've read the specs grab too hard for most transmissions? The previous owner said the transmission was built up. The guy just gave me a huge list of parts the car had and it just said "Tremec HD 5 speed" whatever that means. So, should i just go with another CF or trade for a spec stage 2?

The car has the parts listed in my sig + a crapload more stuff. What do you guys think?

Use a mcleod disk with your choice of a motorsport HD pressure plate or a king cobra pressure plate. Awesome kit. Its what I run in my 347, never an issue. You can get it from ddperformance, astroperformance ect.

I run a spec stage II...I love it. Grabs like crazy and the action is very precise. Yes, it is hard on the tranny...but ahhhhhh who cares....a strong clutch is a must.

Which Centerforce? Stage I (Gold Class), Stage II, or Dual Friction (Stage III).

The Dual Friction would have no problem holding the power you have and has the softest pedal in the aftermarket.

Who installed it? Proper torque? How did you adjust the clutch?

Yea He must have known it was. I estimated that it should be at around 350hp and since I bought it, it never felt like it pulled that hard. If a clutch is slightly slipping can a several hard races wear it down significantly? How streetable is the spec stage 2? And besides the kit is there anything else I need to buy? Im having a friend install it for me at his shop because I dont know enough to do it myself. I want to make sure i have everything needed.

Im also thinking it might not be adjusted right? I dont want to buy a new clutch when mine might just need t be adjusted. In my pedal I have about 1/2 an inch of slack, meaning i can move the pedal 1/2" before it even starts pulling the cable. But while im driving if i give it gas to go faster the rpms will increase without going any faster, then come back down. like its slipping then starts to catch. As you can tell im pretty new to working on cars so bear with me, thanks.

After reading some I think im just going to go with another CDF. The car is my DD and I need a softer pedal and I dont like the idea of the on/off feel like the Specs. I was going to order from summit but I couldnt figure out which one to order. I have the 26 spline shaft but whats the different between these two?

the first one is a 10.5" clutch, second is 11". depending on what bellhousing and flywheel you have decides what clutch you need. i don't have a tremec, just a t5, but i'm pretty sure you need the 10.5" one. i'd verify that though. regardless, neither of those kits come with a throwout bearing or a clutch alignment tool. you'll definitely want to get a new throwout bearing, about $15 at any local parts store. a clutch alignment tool is not ABSOLUTELY needed but makes it a TON easier to stick the transmission back in. i just did it without one though.

You may or may not have a Dual Friction in there, they all look visibly the same and it may be easy to say 'yeah, it's got a dual friction.'

Yeah, a few hard races can wear down a clutch quickly if it is beginning to slip.

Does the clutch have a firewall adjuster? I can't imagine a setup like that and not bothering to run one. If it does, make sur eit's adjusted properly. It might be worn a bit from your races and just need adjusted a bit.

That is the correct throwout bearing. For that price, I just would order a Centerforce, but both will work fine!

If your pilot bearing, rear main seal, bearing retainer are fine, you should just need the clutch kit, throw out bearing, and clutch alignment tool.

Check the adjustment.
