The stang has been taken in to the local dealer for the gas tank, rear brake, dash electrics TSB's. Also had them take a look and listen to the rear end which has been whining quite a bit. They say it needs replacing, gears and all. So tell me, what can i look for in the new sound and feel. Also what should i look out for because i only have 1200 miles left on the factory warranty. Thanks

If they are getting an entire assembly, just buy a Moser 9-inch that will bolt in the 2005 up Mustang using all factory mounting locations. All of them. the entire assmbly including pumpkin and locker will only run you $1500, same as a new 8.8" rear.

They say it is a new ring and pinion, if that sounds right

thats what i thought they meant. FORD issued a TSB to prevent axle assemblies from being replaced when they just need the ring and pinion.

look for anthing that seems abnormal. vibrations, whining, shudders, or binding sensations. check for fluid leaks as well.

I think it was TSB 5-02-02 or something close to that, but it is far more quite than it was before and seems to be doing well.
The other thing they are doing next is replacing the passenger air bag because there is a rattle in the glove box when you reach in the box to a metal plate way up in the top of the box that squeeks. They say it is an airbag that is housed there and having it replaced. Sound like BS or familiar?

i thought some people were able to just tighten up the nuts, and the rattle went away.

if you need any TSB information in the future, you can check out the list of them here:

good luck!

You can still purchase the Ford Extended Premium Warranty for your Mustang "BEFORE" your 1,200 miles of existing Ford service warranty run out. That's what I did. You can pay for it every month for up to 17 months I think. I was paying like $156 per month for 17 months and that was for the TOP OF THE LINE Ford Warranty (7 years/100,000 miles bumper to bumper).
Don't delay. Get the Ford Extended Warranty. You will thank me for it later on.
